Thanks mate
OK so the appointment for the ONT install was moved up to tomorrow afternoon (23/08). I rang 2 Degrees yesterday morning to enquire about when the modem would be sent. The CSR agent was great: excellent answers, didn't over-promise and we agreed upon a target activation date for the new service. A couple of hours later I got 2 emails: one confirming the 23rd as our new activation date and another with a tracking number for the router.
Router arrived this morning, in fact, so when the Chorus team are done upgrading the ONT tomorrow we should be able to activate the new service thereafter. Schweet!
Yup, installed and upgraded, relatively painless.
Now I just that static IP address so the CGNAT bull%^& can go away.
Installer came early, woo hoo! Did the hardware install in about 10 minutes, woo hoo! Couldn't connect to the server, boo! Rang Chorus and 2 Degrees and claimed to have sorted it and "just wait until it updates and restarts.
It updated, it restarted. No internet. Plugged in the new modem, still no internet. Texted the installer, he said it was a 2 Degrees issue. Rang 2 Degrees, they claimed it was a Chorus issue. So I pointed out the monthly premium I have agreed to pay for this improved service....and that this was not meeting that standard. To her credit the 2 Degrees CSR put me on hold, and rang Chorus. Apparently there is a massive queue for these to be "automatically" authorised in their system. That was 3 hours ago.
This message has been brought to you via tethering.
2 Degrees says Chorus has a massive backlog and we might be offline until midnight.

Throwing your supplier who has a fairly comprehensive provisioning system under the bus sounds like a cop-out.
2 Degrees needs to manage their service orders better and if Chorus aren't delivering, escalate through their accounts/relationship manager. If its a known issue, they can also proactively let the customers know and provide alternative connectivity while they wait too (with arrangements made PRIOR to connection go live).

is there any discernible difference with hyper fibre for home connections?
are you not just gifting telco extra $$ for not much extra benefit?

Pretty much, yes to gifting more money to your ISP. Except there are some cases where the increased upload speed would be quite beneficial, especially those doing massive uploads (backups etc) but it's very niche. Most uses for Hyperfibre would be pure geekiness :-)
I dunno yet. But we are bandwidth hogs and are relying on various hacks to cover black holes in our wifi coverage.
Connection went live last night, but not giving us hyperfibre speeds yet. Will ring 2 Degrees this morning.

As it turns out I didn't need to ring--I received a welcome email from 2 Degrees this morning, at which point the speed leapt up. The router is absolutely getting Hyperfibre 2 speeds. Throughput on 5ghz wifi is a bit faster than on fibre and the up rate is the same (both 6-7k). But the great improvement is the wifi coverage: nearly all of our 600m section in Auckland now has reliable and fast wifi connectivity without any network extenders. We'll also be able to decommission 2 mini routers in various parts of the house. Just being able to connect at speed in the evening on my iPad is a massive improvement.
Very happy. Thanks again to he who will not be named here who intervened on my behalf with 2 Degrees. None of this would have happened otherwise.

Huh?
Do you still give you a fritzbox? or a router that can handle speeds?

They're giving out the "Netgear AX6000", which is the base unit from this set up

in 2d's defense, this one was definitely us, although I think the backlog comment is a red herring. I haven't got to the bottom of it yet, but one system definitely didn't talk to another system properly
Two weeks ago I had a phone conversation with someone from the technical department, because somehow I got switched to CGNAT, although I have fixed IP in my plan. During the call I scheduled a callback from the customer support team to talk about an upgrade to hyperfibre, since the person I was talking to couldn't help me out.
Two weeks later, today, I receive a standard textbook email, telling me that hyperfibre is not available for existing customers, and they can put me on a waiting list.
Well, after more than five years of perfect experience with 2d, this one kind of hit me in the guts.
I wonder if and how other members managed to get this one sorted?
