Wife only just got a message now - a day too late. No email, no warning beforehand.

All those devices that can't send or receive SMS (IoT jumps to mind) won't be able to send the SMS with the 10plan1M message...

I'm on a grandfathered plan, paying an additional $25 per month over my plan cost for my husband to share my Minutes, Texts, and Data.

He's also just got this message. Which is just as well - because my other Data sims are in LTE Security Cameras, My iPad, and the Backup LTE Modem for my internet. None of which can receive SMS messages.

I first assumed the SMS was a scam - and only confirmed it's real from Geekzone. I'm particularly concerned that, as the bill payer, I still haven't had any notification from 2Degrees of this change myself.

Presuming his data is about to run out, it seems I'll be moving about $300 in monthly business to One.

I work for a global Data Protection Software company - But my opinions are my own.

Yep and what’s worse is likely when people notice it’ll be too late and that $10 will be eaten up with casual data use…

This really isn't good enough. They can't just tell us retrospectively that they have changed the rules. I got the text at 5:52 tonight.

I share data with my tablet and my wife's account, so this is a real inconvenience.

Keen to hear what alternatives are out there, particularly as I don't want to pay a monthly account for my tablet. I'm not aware of any other providers with data sharing - does anyone else know of any?

I have today started the process of moving my entire family over to Spark and One NZ. Up to connection 14 of 34. So far it's $1,140 of lost business. I guess it will be over 3k in mobile as there is still the fixed line broadband (9 of these) which are around $80 each also.

When you add it up, we do pay a lot.

I am personally with One NZ now (have been for a while now) but the family are not all going to One NZ. Some will go with Quic. So there will be a few referral code being used?

I am assuming you can use the same refernal code 9 times?

Given a decent chunk would have postpaid accounts as data donors, they would have had channels such as letters, email, bill inserts and more to communicate in advance. Really no excuse.

I still believe 2D are unaware of the backlash this has caused. This sharing issue was the straw the broke the camels back for my family. (I have 12 in-laws and 28 nieces and nephews)

Since I am the IT guy they are all getting me to sort it.

Some are going with Spark as the more users on the account drops the bill down considerably.

Some prefer OneNZ - overall the costs will be higher but they simply don't care now!

It's purely a principle based decision with them all. I am personally surprise as normally they can never agree on anything 😂

I wouldn't be this angry if I got the message earlier.

Adding 10$ each per month is not a big number.

But the way 2degrees implements the change is ridiculously stupid. I am definitely departing. Cannot trust the management team that made such absurd decision.

So even if you’re locked into a contract (mine being a 36mnth) can they make these changes on the fly like this, is there a clause that enables them to do that? This basically means an extra $30 for me for the family devices which stretches my overall budget.

@mikeylarry How are you locked into a contract? The only way I know of is by paying off a handset over 36 months

This is not a contract term but just paying off a handset

@Delorean yep you can use referral codes as many times as you like. Move yours across, then use your referral code for your family.

I’m likely moving my main internet connection over too… but it’s a harder move for me so have to plan it.

Yes my dad on a $8 plan got $1 taken off with his low usage.  Someone got $16 taken off.  I thought that message was the notification until I checked the usage ....

That must be what it is, if that’s the case then not as bad of a situation for me then, still a inconvenience.

Section 27

https://www.2degrees.nz/termsofuse/personal/mobile/pay-monthly/pay-monthly-terms-and-conditions

They all have them. If they feel the change is non consequential - no warning, If it is considered, 10 days. Sometimes 30

Also list they 'may' use a heap of mediums to send it. Guessing this thread has shed some light to send those messages out tonight. Rather convenient.

But this reads like an 'oops' being patched to meet that section suddenly. There is a bit there about negotiating an out if you think it is an impact.
