I did not search through stock, I got my free one Wednesday in the mail.

I did not want to port as I expected start-up issues and knew about the trouble they were having with uninformed people that don;t want cell phone towers near schools (lowest radiation is below the tower - please install them at schools!). Also I have a spare phone so will keep both VF and 2D numbers for now.

When the on-line self-help was still available, I've picked the option to change my number and typed in the same number as my VF SIM but with 0220 instead of 0210. The number was still available so I took it. So now my VF number and my 2D number is identical except for the 3rd digit.

If I ported the number the VF SIM would have become useless and the 2D SIM would get the 0210 number, but I wanted to have a new number and just wanted to make it easy for everyone to remember.

When you receive the envelope in the mail you get a shrink wrapped SIM holder inside which is the same as if you bought it at the shops. The SIM holder has a label on the back with your PUK and mobile number and SIM card number. If you threw away the SIM holder without reading the label (i.e. don't have the PUK any more) then don't worry, (eventually) when you log onto the web site it will display your PUK. Very nice, you don't have to remember it!

Hi.
Does anyone know the full range of numbers available from 2D in the 022 sequence?

Niel mentioned 0220xxxxxx and also 02261xxxxx has been mentioned. My chinwag SIM arrived todat and it has 02260xxxxx allocated. Would they have the full 022 range available or are some held for future providers?

My original number was 02260xxxxx before I changed it, so there is another sequence for you.

I have been told by CSR at 2D that 0220 0221 and 0222 all plus xxx xxx are the only ones that will be available for selection at the moment.

Yes, the entire 022 range has been assigned to 2 Degrees. See the NAD at this link. There is still no guarantee that the entire 022 range will be released by 2d for customers. Though they have said that they will, so over time, I think the entire 022 range will become available.

Yes, that is what you can change to. But the SIMs that were shipped are in a different range. Mine started with 0226.

I believe pretty much all the presently released SIMs (Chinwag, Free SIMs and retail SIMs) have been in the 0226 range.

I think the 0220 pre-fix is brilliantly simple, I lost my old VF 6 digit number switching to telecom before number portability was available. I remember when Telecom marketed the whole D-AMPS-->CDMA with 0274 + your old 6 digit number routine.

With my 2D sim I am happy to have a 0220-xxx-xxx number

Just one other thing. Being able to change your number is very cool, but there are always a few that just seem to want to abuse the privilege. So, if you change your number and we find it for sale on TradeMe (or anywhere else for that matter) within six months of the SIM being activated we reserve the right to terminate the connection without notice or warning. Or, you can agree to give all the sale proceeds to a charity of our choosing. Your call!

info@2degreesmobile is probably the easiest as it is fire and forget rather than having to call the call center

I see no problem. If there is a market for special numbers why not sell them. The only issue is I imagine the sellers aren't declaring the sales for tax purposes...

Well, if what tcpdump says is the case, 2degrees DO see a problem. And it's kind of their opinion that matters, eh?
