I guess it had to happen but Trademe is now flooded with 2 Degree SIMs, making it actually hard to search for other SIM cards.

Modus operandi - buy cheap SIM, load on a "good" number, sell on Trademe for $$$

Despicable really. I wish there was some way this could be limited.

I'd pay to be able to choose my number. Perhaps they should do this for every number change.

That's right. But I was thinking more that perhaps EVERY change should be charged.

But now I think more about it, even that won't stop them.

They will just sell for more :/

one of the comments on a 2degrees auction item was along the lines of "why so hard to login and change number" "i bought 25 cards and am having trouble requesting numbers".

I think this person just ended up listing them all with the numbers they came with :D

If you understood 2degree's retailer margins & incentives you would realise this was inevitable.

Selling SIM's and topups in good volumes is very, very profitable.

Scabs are called so for a reason and like their namesake they come and go but are always unpleasant ;-)

On the other hand these situations do tend to open up a whole can of worms on what is ethical and whats not...whos allowed to be in business and whos not etc...

Simple, 2degrees should insist trademe remove all listings for their sims.... as the sellers are not part of their resellers network.

How does Trademe react in such circumstances? Because I hear of promoters saying scalping is against their T&Cs and yet tickets are still sold on TM - is that due to lack of asking or lack of TM agreeing?

I kind of agree with your thinking, but then there may be genuine reasons for selling ONE SIM, so it gets hard. Of course at the end of the day selling ONE SIM probably breaches the T&Cs. But then does 2 Degrees want this sort of potentially bad PR?

Tough one.

At the end of the day selling of SIMs on TM comes about due to actually having to pay for a $30 SIM with $10 loaded. $2 SIMs with $2 on it mean you don't have to shop around for a cheap SIM.

Wow this is just a bit sickening.

48 hand picked numbers not being sold for charity.

That's so so bad. Not that this person denied me a number I wanted, but just the whole principle of this.

It's hardly entrepreneurial.

Bit like selling H20 for $50 a bottle in an emergency.
