Not really coz if you signed up on the $29 plan before it had the 500MB bonus data then you dont get it automatically like when the number of texts was changed to all you need, all the plans got it automatically.
I know this coz my wife's on this plan and still has the 50MB data

On the $39 plan, data has decreased by 32% (1100 to 750mb), a std NZ call has increased by 11% (44c to 49c). International calls to main destinations (OZ, UK etc) has increased by 11% (44c to 49c) and international txt'ing to the top destinations (OZ, UK etc.) has increased by 122% (9c to 20c).

Let's not pretend this is anything more than repackaging and a price increase, value decrease.

Sums it up for me. A straight-up downgrade in every respect from the old $39 plan, though admittedly a sidegrade or mild upgrade for the others. At least ditching the bonus minutes and data simplifies the plans a bit and makes them easier to explain to others.

Must admit I was hoping for better. I have one more year of bonus data on the old $39 plan - can't see myself staying with 2degrees past that point if this is what's on offer in a year's time. I hate to complain, but come on - a one third cut in data allowance (the only meaningful measure on a smartphone plan) for the exact same price? What is there to like about that?

I might give it a go, although it's probably not a big deal when I think about it. At the moment I'm definitely only getting 50mb a month but I buy the 3Gb broadband zone pack on a regular basis so the data supplied with the plan is just a supplement for when I'm outside of broadband zones. It's rarely used now that 2degrees have a pretty decent coverage footprint.

Yep, have to agree. Have just emailed them to ask if I will lose the bonus 1gb on my $39 plan too, has 12 more months to run. Tried to call last night but could not get through. Why offer a worse plan at one price point? The carryover benefit is a little like smoke and mirrors to me.

It seems that the international prices for a number of destinations have increased considerably. Under the old plans you could call about 30 countries for 44c, now it is only 8 for 69/49c. South Africa, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and a number of others have all gone from $0.44 under the old plans to $1.44 under the new ones.

There goes "one of the reasons" many people were with 2 degrees - cheap international calling/txting
unless they want to move to prepay where the pricing still hasnt changed..

It'd be a different story if you were on lets say $39 pay monthly (old / retired) plans and then switched to $29 carryover (new) plan, I think someone mentioned accumulated that minutes wouldnt come across in that scenario..

Under 'change plan' on the main website:

When you move to a Carryover Minute Plan you will lose your existing Carryover Minutes balance. But our new Carryover Minute Plans give you more Carryover Minutes every month and if you don’t use them they will carry over every month for up to a year.
If you move to a new Carryover Minute Plan you will continue to keep your Bonus Minutes as long as you remain a Carryover Minute Plan customer. You will however lose your Pay Monthly Plan’s Bonus Data entitlement when you switch to a Carryover Minute Plan.

Nice that you get to keep the bonus minutes on top though, hadn't noticed that, it effectively bumps your quota by 100 if you change over to the equivelant plan I guess.

But it seems crazy that they are saying yes please join our great Carryover Minute Plans.... but don't for a second think that you can carry over your saved minutes! ....false advertising :p ?

If they let people transfer those minutes to the new caryover plans then those people would not pcik a plan close to their needs, instead they would pick the very cheapest plan until they have gone thorugh all their minutes, which would lose 2D loads and loads of revenue.

So, sensibly, they don;t let you bring them accross so you are encouraged to buy the plan that is closest to your needs.

No, since you lose the carryover minutes by changing plan, discouraging you from trading down a plan from month to month.

Rolling over month to month means you have to stay on the seem plan, therefore 2d gets the same revenue.
Rolling over plan to plan means you can trade down to a cheaper plan, losing 2d revenue.

No, since you lose the carryover minutes by changing plan, discouraging you from trading down a plan from month to month.

Rolling over month to month means you have to stay on the seem plan, therefore 2d gets the same revenue.
Rolling over plan to plan means you can trade down to a cheaper plan, losing 2d revenue.

Its really interesting how you can downgrade your plan and still keep your minutes but the condition is that you should be downgrading / switching between (old) pay monthly to pay monthly plans. (I know it coz I did and kept my minutes)

I am not sure how it would work out with the (new) carryover plans, that is if you swtich / downgrade from a carryover to another carryover plan.

But I have definitely heard from people in this forum who have switched / downgraded from a (old) pay monthly plan to a carryover plan and lost all minutes..

2degrees confirmed to me by email that if I change plans (from $39 to new Carry Over $39) then I will lose my final year of bonus 1gb data. So I have no worry about losing minutes as they have offered me no benefit to switch. I don't use the phone to call overseas and probably use more data minutes on it than voice.

The $39 plan with 100mb + 1gb for two years was a decent deal. I was spending almost that much on prepay anyway. Went monthly, sold the phone they gave me for $120, got more minutes, data and texts for less.

I reckon they should increase the national 3G data packs as well now that they have more coverage through out new zealand

I went and checked their website.

$6 to buy 50mb of national data
$10 for 100mb

Where are the changes making most places a moble broadband zone etc???
10 mintues outside of Christchurch at Lincoln University and no broadband zone....

Just to confirm, if you're on a retired Pay Monthly plan and move to a new Carryover plan you'll lose your accumulated Carryover Minutes, the 500MB Bonus on the $29 plan and 1GB Bonus on $39 and above plans BUT you'll keep receiving your Bonus Minutes for life unless you terminate your Pay Monthly plan.

So if you move from a $39 retired Pay Monthly plan to a $39 Carryover Minute plan you'll receive a total of 320 minutes per month (220 Carryover, 100 non Carryover bonus minutes) plus All You Need Texts and 750MB of Shared Data.
