well for me its the fact that I was not actually attempting to game or skype or watch youtube.
All I want is my gmail working and my phone picking it up. Problem is this fault knocks out the ability to do that.
I have been with Slingshot for a few years now, I am/was on one of the old plans with the unmetered period during the early hours of the morning.
I have not had problems with them even though I live rural. However when there is this kind of disturbance to traffic and zero communication from the ISP its simply not good enough.
They are quick enough to send a reminder the day after my bill payment is due even though its been made, be nice if they just sent an email saying sorry having some issues at the moment, bit of disruption in services working on it and will have it back asap.
When I worked as part of the ops team at a NZ ISP that was eaten by the big boys, this type of communication would be the norm or at least an acknowledgement from the hell desk that something was wrong wyhen customers rang.
Here nothing. So its the 80gb plan on Telecom for me since Telecom data network was what I tested the phone on yesterday to id the fact that it was Slingshot and not google that was broken. Should save me a few buck each month as well as its a bit cheaper. So far been a customer of Orcon, WorldExchange, Slingshot now Telecom for broadband. Eventually I will start back at the beginning again :)

You will have an ASID starting with llu16.... or a uba1634. If you have moved, you will have many of them. Easiest way to tell is if you have the ability to use the easy phone features.
Like others - two that are uba1624* and uba1634* which are inactive, and one that I assume is the phone number (although I'm on naked)

Log in to Slingshot website, click on Visibill and navigate to 'Line Descriptions" under "Account Management" on the bottom left hand side of the page.

Okay found those numbers. Both the uba1624 and the SW numbers state " inactive" and the top is my home phone number that saids "Active"
google play store on the phone is out - as is all other google stuff since it cannot connect to authenticate and chat on the gmail interface on the laptop is the same.
Having issues on and off, right now I can't stream iTunes radio and trying to update Google SDK pulling 10kb/s. On Friday basically anything using https wasn't working or was very slow to load.
If you have a 1624 and a 1634, it means you are on a Baseband connection which is phone to the exchange and broadband through the cabinet. That is the better network. If you have a 1624 ASID, I believe that means it is just your regular wholesale connection. 1622 ASID numbers are LLU connections. It seems to be BUBA connections that are impacted the most if not exclusively.
I also contacted Slingshot again along with Timbo. They are going to transition me from BUBA to EUBA if possible, but a pre-qualification is required. I have a funny feeling I won't be able to, since I'm in the same situation...Direct fed 5KM from the exchange. :(

But the issue is staying connected to skype and pretty much any online service that has a login server.

Now if only i could stay connected to skype and steam and my online subscription games I'd be thrilled!

Try doing a speedtest elsewhere - say Telecom at http://speedtest.telecom.co.nz/speedtest.swf?v=2.1.7 Prepare for disappointment!
wow just wow. You were right. I tried that link above and I got exactly 1.95mbps/0.60mbps. I think after 5 nights of this.. it's enough to make even the most stead fast Slingshot fans sorta frown :(
sweet! glad im on the better network :D but saddening that the better network still shows poor results on the telecom speed test and is having the same issues as i've read throughout this thread.
