BensDaMan: I did have a 3-4ms ping to orcon.net.nz , now It's around 23ms.

I'm really confused by this, 23ms is typical, 3-4ms is unfeasibly quick, I'd expect to maybe get that sat in our AKL office to a core element.....

The team found your connection fine as expected, other than that you will have to give me some more symptoms that we can work with. Quoting speed tests to NY is not at all useful whether good or bad, there is obviously a huge amount of network in that route that is off-Orcon.

Your national speeds have always been fine yes? If you are going to test please use speediest servers in LA or Sydney but even better let us know what actual sites you are having problems with....and please reply to the fault ticket so the team can see them.

Hi dt, our T3 team still can't work this one out, next time it occurs please do some tracers and send them to me, we will look at it as close to real-time as we can.

My fully functional Wanganui UFB connection gets 14.8ms to orcon.net.nz, for reference.

Has something changed?

My net seems very nippy tonight, speed tests and pings are normal.  A week ago it was all over the place.

Good to see some improvement :)

Edit: While things seem faster, right now at 9:20PM speeds to AUS are under 10Mbit, normally 27...

I can't find it in me to describe 10Mb/s internationally as appalling.....but Oz is getting hammered tonight, peak time here and peak time there at the same time....

BTW I get 7Mb/s absolute max nationally...

I was getting 27/9 all the time to Sydney about 3 weeks ago.  Then pings to Sydney started going all over (upto 150ms), since then, pings aren't as bad, but speeds are slow, browsing things in AUS feels sluggish too.  Always pretty much 7 on the dot when it slows down.  I get higher US speeds than AU at this time.

what server are you testing to in Sydney?

the internode server is sh!te

the rest i can get the same stats i get to NZ servers with a slightly higher ping. Telecom VDSL

its either your ISP, the route they choose to use or the server you are testing to

I've tried Internode, Telstra, Optus.
Also to Adelaide, pings are slightly higher than Sydney as expected, those servers give a similar or worse result at night.

I've also noticed, when testing to Orcon's server, the test just dies when it uploads and it gives erratic results.  Fine with other Auckland servers.

So I'll just chip in my speedtest to sydney:
Optus

Internode
Telstra

Funky. At the very least, downstream is disappointing.
