As Lennon suggests VPN working fine but DNS is not.  Tried random search advice from UnotellyNick no joy.  Before router goes in bin, for lack of compliance, anyone getting any joy with Unotelly router suggestion?

Check if your router supports dd-wrt, if it is a router that is.  Either way, I see no reason why that unotelly wouldn't work via Global DNS mode with slingshot.  However, it doesn't.  Not yet at least.

After spending a couple of hours with UnoTelly on Skype and testing from here it appears this is affecting New Zealand only.

If you are using Slingshot Global Mode please continue discussing in this topic.

If you are not using Slingshot Global Mode please post a reply in this thread with your network, DNS/VPN provider, device type/version.

I got in touch with Slingshot support, they say it's a known issue and is being looked into.  So at least they know about it!

How would it be affecting NZ only?

I've added the static routes and can't ping the public DNS services but still not joy.

Well it pretty much means one of several things:

1 The southern cross cable has had something 'applied' to it

2 Someone misconfigured something

3 Netflix has a way of 'identifying' NZ'ers as a test for other nations (wouldn't be hard considering how many signed up with .co.nz addresses probably)

If option one, then you really need to join the Internet Party and understand what they're fighting for.

If option 2 it will be fixed

If Option 3 it's the ole cat and mouse game to see if someone works around it.

Probably some others I haven't thought about.

i signed up with a gmail.com address, used my nz credit card though i think if that were the issue they'd just cancel the accounts

only way they'd get my location out of google is if google violated the privacy act, and last i checked they only did that for the US NSA

Well now that we have the attention of that particular rogue agency - Do you think that it's many eyes aren't involved in unscrupulous activities like monitoring this type of traffic?  I mean they take the whole Southern Cross cable - including any video streaming.  Time to read up e.g. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11222413

Unotelly have just tweeted about Netflix issues in NZ so it is widespread.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Skyfall on US Netflix was misbehaving until I used UnoHelper to force an IP update, now it's fine.

Are you sure this is not a Slingshot/Vodafone issue only, they both use the same upstream supplier, Vocus could could be something there, its working fine on my Snap connection.

Its not No 1, carriers buy at wavelength level fro SCCN, would be a massive undertaking to make this happen, needs to be at ISP level.

It would however be easy for Netflix to get a list of NZ IP Address's and block them from their servers, although if they did this all NZ ISP's would be affected.

I wasn't aware of Slingshot and Vodafone having same supplier - it totally could be that - really odd issue to pin down in any case.  Let's hope they figure it out.

Maybe 'SPARK' has something to do with it... nah (turns conspiracy theories off). ;)
