I called up 2degrees to sign up for this today (still on the phone actually). Hit 9 for broadband, then 1 for signing up. Talked to a guy who told me the offer wasn't available to existing customers, but to go back to the menu and hit 2 to talk to them about options. After 15 minutes of waiting I gave up (hanging up now).

While I was waiting I was on Google and discovered BigPipe is $79 for 100/20 with unlimited data

tukapa1: If you're happy with a 2 year contract then look at voyager. $69 month.

I actually wrote up a price comparison (between the three) earlier in the thread:

Detruire:

I don't understand the appeal here (if you aren't on a 2degrees mobile plan.)

If you're willing to sign a 24 month contract, you may as well sign one with Voyager: their plan is $69/mth for the whole 24 months. In other words, it's $192 cheaper. Or $310.80 if you wanted the 200/20 option (Voyager charge $20, 2degrees charge $24.95.)

Even if you plan to leave after 12 months and take the $249 hit, it's still not a great deal. It's still $9 more than Voyager (12mth contract), or $138 more than Bigpipe if you already have UFB (specifics below). And, once again, that saving increases $59.4 for 200/20.

Sticking it out for the whole two years:
2degrees: $59 for 12 mths, $95 for 12 mths = $1848 ($77/mth)
Voyager: $69 for 24 mths = $1656 ($69/mth, obviously)

Abandoning ship after one year:
2degrees: $59 for 12 mths, $249 disconnection fee = $957 ($79.75/mth)
Voyager: $79 for 12 mths, no disconnection fee = $948 ($79/mth)
Bigpipe: $79 for 10 mths (2 free with UFBSWITCH), $49 connection fee, and a $20 credit for signing up with someone's referral link) = $819 ($68.25/mth)

Prices are for 100/20 UFB (and VDSL for 2degrees/Voyager.) Add $299.4/yr (2degrees) or $240/yr (Voyager/Bigpipe) for 200/20 UFB.

Yeah, I saw that thanks. I mostly wanted to have a moan that 2 degrees put out a deal that didn't exclude current customers in the terms and conditions then they wouldn't honor it.

Existing customers DO qualify however if they're locked into an existing term plan they may have to pay ETCs. Please call us and our Sales team will be able to advise.

Detruire: Sticking it out for the whole two years:
2degrees: $59 for 12 mths, $95 for 12 mths = $1848 ($77/mth)

If you're an existing 2degrees Pay Monthly customer you'll get a $10 discount per month so that becomes a total of $1608 over the 2 years.

Cheers

I'm well out of contract. Seems like staff might need to be trained because that one has potentially lost you a formerly loyal customer. Now instead of being happy to sign up for two years I'm looking around at options.

It's no secret that the wireless on the 7390 is marginal at best, so from day#1 I've had to have an extra wireless ap to get coverage in my house.

From talking with people at work (and reading this thread) there seems to be conflicting info regarding getting a new modem (eg the 7490).
In some case it appears they are not available, but in other cases I've heard of existing customers getting a new modem.

Can anyone (and would particularly like to hear from 2Degrees themselves) comment on:

(1) If they have swapped to the new 59/95 deal, whether they got a new modem (and if so, what model)

(2) For those that have paid to get a new modem, what they ended up paying.

Thanks for your help.

My 7390, mounted up quite high in center of the the house, works fine. It's not the best wireless performance I've ever seen, but it's ok. 2.4GHz works a bit better than 5GHz.

I purchased the 7490 from 2Degrees for $150 - well I think they actually charged me $138 for it for some reason.

I upgraded from the 7390 and the wireless strength is a lot better.

I just switched to the 59/95 24-month plan, as part of an upgrade from ADSL to fibre, and got the 7490 for $30 incl. delivery. Everything worked smoothly and I couldn't be happier!

Hi there 3g,

If you have already received a device under contract, you will not be issued a new one on a new contract. The sole exception to this is if you were originally issued a 7340, as this device is end of life and only receiving critical security firmware updates.

You are more than welcome to purchase a 7490 from us if you would like an upgrade, pricing is $165 inc GST with $15 shipping. Youc an do this through the helpdesk on 0800 022 022 opt 9.

Thanks

Gotta say $165 for a 7490 is a darned good price compared to what they were outright in the Snap! days. For that price it's worth it outright without a contract.

If the WiFi of the 7390 is working ok is there any advantage to the 7490? The 7390 WiFi isn't as strong as it could be, but it reaches my entire house ok, and I get better signal strength if I drop from 5GHz to 2.4GHz.

If you received a 7390 under your old contract and your contract is now up, why shouldn't you get a 7490 included under your new contract?

You will be paying the same as a new customer, and locking yourself into 24 months just like a new customer. The old contract is ended and should have no bearing on the new contract what so ever.

So you make a little change to your account last year (Oct) from Snap to 2 degrees, don't take the free modem they want to send you etc. and now when you want to sign up to this deal to be with 2 degrees for another 2 years they want $249 to change to it.

Come Oct I'm sure there will be some better deals out there and to think I have been recommending them to people as well.

What happened to you could change plan and your time extended with out penalty that Snap used to do?

I currently have an extra 2Talk number($6.90) + 2Degrees Fibre + Phone (local).

I did the calculations below for 24 months (including porting my local number to 2Talk as well in the case of Voyager and BigPipe) and came out with the following totals.

Current 2Deg 59/95 Spark Voyager BigPipe $2,796.25 $2,454.50 $2,562.25 $2,185.00 $2,168.00 Saving----> $341.75 $234.00 $611.25 $628.25

Not sure what I'll do - but it does tell me I'm no longer recommending nor re-signing with 2Degrees.
