Hi guys,

Just an update, we have now deployed the fix on all exchanges, which should have fixed both the ring tone profile and caller ID issues.

If anyone is still having problems please lodge a ticket - support (at) orcon.net.nz and we will look into it.

Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for the update, things have definitely changed on my phone but I am not sure if for the better :(.

Now the phone doesn't even recognise that there is a call, the display acts as if there is no incomming call so displays no new calls and of course the caller ID doesn't work at all...

Anyway I will lodge a ticket...

Anyone else having problems still? or am I alone now ?

Just called them and was put on hold while the person went and checked what was going on and he came back with the "patching next week" thing again so it'll work for about a week before reverting ;)

My ring tone is back to a normal two-ring & caller id seems to work every time now. I'm on Avondale exchange. Looks like Orcon are getting someway towards fixing the issue.

Still no joy here.  Phone just doesn't register that it is getting a call at all..

I see Orcon think everything is fixed as they have moved the caller ID problems on their status page to the historical events section.  Well it isn't historical here!!.  I am beginning to question my decision on leaving the telecom network.

I have had no problems with broadband with Orcon but this whole caller-id and ring pattern thing seems a circus..

At least it seems resolved for some people.. hopefully they will fix it on all the exchanges eventually..

Caller ID on the Orcon+ Network Intermittently Failing

Some calls were not being presented correctly via Caller ID on the Orcon+ network. We have deployed a fix which has now resolved the issue.

Hmm I am not a orcon custermor but I would like to know how long this caller id problems been going on for, and if your paying to use this feature when it clearly is not working?

I switched in September and the issue was apparant then, not sure how long before that date. There is no extra charge for it. but it IS promoted as a feature of their plans which is sort of why I would like it to be fixed..
The strange thing is, they often say "we are rolling out patches" etc
Well, I've had it work for about a week at a time probably twice now, then it breaks again. No idea what they're doing but it doesn't seem to be a permanent fix. Now I get caller ID again on my fax but not on my uniden phone (which was the original issue for me, which was fixed when they changed the voltage of the ring/tip which meant the odd ring tone that I really didnt mind - I'd rather that than no caller ID)

Oh now I understand that they make you pay for the caller id by including it as a feature of their internet services when they advertise their plans. So essentially you pay for the service and they only supply you with parts of it. I think you should find out how much other companies charge for those parts, ring orcon up and tell them how much other companies charge, and say that you want your bill reduced by that much untill the services are supplied. Allso tell them you want them to give the money you where previously paying for those services back aswell while they whernt working. And i will be shocked if I find out that their "it will be fixed in 1 week" slogan has been said once a week for several months in this place (posibly since the proble arose) and yet theyve not managed to fix it.

What a trouble maker!  Thanks for the advice, however.  I wonder when I ring up orcon to ask them to refund the caller id costs that other providers charge, shall I also offer to pay the broadband/phoneline costs that other providers charge?  Or can I pick and choose the costs I like?

I dont know where people drag this word "free" out from.

They advertise it as part of the package, it doesn't matter if another company charges extra for it or not, that doesn't make it free.

You are paying for it and not getting it.

It is like subscribing to SKY TV for 3 channels and they only provide 2 to you, would you expect a refund? of course. regardless of whether another company charges more for the 3rd channel than sky.  Some might say caller-id isn't that important but for some people the phone isn't even recognising calls which acuses all kinds of headaches and for some caller-id is important, people that need to screen calls etc.  One could understand if it was broken for a short time and then fixed but this has been going on for ages.

Agreed, but how would you quantify the value of caller id in this case?

That would be the question, for some people it is invaluable, as equipment isn't recognising that it is rining, that means fax machines, answer phones etc won't work.  Other people that have unlisted numbers and/or want to check who is calling before they answer also.

So, for one person it might be worth nothing, for another it could be very important :)

But as Telecom charge about 3.95 for it, that would probably be the fair price I guess.. somewhere around there..

What really annoys me is that there are obviously a lot of people still having problems with caller-id etc and that Orcon have moved it to the historical section of their website.  They either have given up on the problem and don't want it continuously on their status page because it is embarrasing or actually do believe it is fixed.  However we know someone from Orcon reads these forums so I don't think it is the later...

This should be a Tui advert :)

yeah right...
