As soon as 2degrees activates eSIM for wearables I will be moving from Spark. Right now it's the only thing holding me back from moving. I've gotten used to not bringing my iPhone everywhere, it's really handy having that cellular connectivity on the watch.

This is the sort of real-world anecdote that makes me so eager to have the cellular plan active on my AWU.

I bought an Apple Watch Series 8 cellular (first cellular Apple Watch) in hopes that 2degrees will bring esim for wearables soon.

Please oh please @quentinreade! You guys are so, so close.

Exactly. It's convenience and peace of mind. You can listen to any of your music without being restricted to a playlist, but it's little things like if I take the dog for a walk or go for an extended run my wife can still see where I am or we can call if we need to, things like that which make a cellular watch so practical.

When I first got a cellular version I wasn't 100% sure it was worth the extra cost, but you definitely get used to leaving the phone at home but still being fully contactable if necessary.

Also pinging @quentinreade for an update!

Same here. Got myself an Apple Watch ultra. Hoping 2degrees is going to support eSIM wearable soon so I don’t have to switch to spark. Oh god please support Apple Watch soon !! The thought of switching to spark is not appealing.

*EDIT* Ignore what I said below. It appears that the QR Code can only be re-used on the same device.

It should be noted that the eSIM QR code contains everything a hacker needs to do to takeover your SIM. It can be re-used.

In other words, 2FA could be defeated.

Either keep it in a safe place, or put it through a shredder. Don't just throw it away in a public place.

ah damnit.. I finally got around to getting my esim done yesterday (second attempt) and the dude in store just threw it in the bin once it was done.

now im going to look like one of those pain in the ass customers when I go back in and ask them to do it again so I can dispose of the QR code properly.. 🤦‍♂️

The QR code will not scan onto another handset but they should have given it to you

I was told by the chap in 2degrees that that QR code can be re-used?

Does this mean that it can't be scanned by other handsets to take over the SIM?

When I changed my Jesus phone, I had to go through the esim swap process. The store staff tried multiple times to use the old QR code before they gave up, got a new QR code and did a sim swap.

They voided the “sim” cost. But it think they were a little confused on what to do.

The QR code can only be reused with the first phone that downloads the eSIM, e.g. if you delete the eSIM profile for some reason you can redownload it. To use another phone you have to get an eSIM to eSIM SIM swap done, then use the new QR code on your new/other phone. In future you will be able to self-manage this process digitally without needing to do the SIM swap but that's a lot more work to achieve on mobile operator side.

It does seem like a bit more work is needed on eSIM support
It took me over 2 weeks, multiple visits to stores, calls to support and supposed software update of sorts on 2D backend before I was able to have eSIM added to my account
Great to see it available but so far not a smooth experience
Hopefully won't have the same experience when I decide to upgrade my phone

Bit of hassle but got an esim loaded onto my Galaxy Watch 5.

Store 1: Refused to sell me an esim when I mentioned a watch
Store 2: Sold me an esim but didn't load any number on it, they just gave me a blank esim
Store 3: Sold me an esim and then activated a brand new physical prepay sim and swapped the number over to the esim

Because there's not a proper wearable plans, it's just a separate prepay sim but 2degrees data sharing works fine to it.

I think I'll wait for proper wearables support for my AWU.

As much as I really would have liked to be able to leave my iPhone behind while out and about at Christmas, it is what it is.
