After MR to most ISPs, there are adjustments to our routers to align with 2D. Do they give assistance for this?

Have read up changes and seem fairly easy - I have an Asus RT-AX5400

Howdy there, Where did you read the changes, can I see them ? cheers CD

Not sure what you guys are on about... There are no changes. 2degrees are transferring MyRepublic customers over like-for-like so things will still continue to work. You'll however gain IPv6 so ensure that is turned on. Also it is worth reminding all of you to secure your networks: https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=81&topicid=302219

Also instead of speedtesting to Auckland (especially Chorus Fibre Lab) try testing to places MyRepublic don't currently peer like servers in Wellington / Christchurch where you should see more of an improvement.

Hi there Cat

"Also instead of speedtesting to Auckland (especially Chorus Fibre Lab) "

I was under the impression that 'everything, like all traffic' was through chorus.. so that would be the best site to test from..!?

Please update my brain...!

cheers CD

No... All ISP's are different and MyRepublic (were) one of the worst providers out there for connectivity as they only had one point of presence in Auckland while other providers have them scattered all over NZ. You can see here also:

PeeringDB
MyRepublic: https://www.peeringdb.com/net/7401
2degrees: https://www.peeringdb.com/net/3798

There is "no best" place to Speedtest too. Both are different networks, 2degrees is better in many regards with connectivity both in NZ and overseas as you can see by the PeeringDB listings above. You'll see better performance as a whole on 2degrees especially lets say to Wellington and Christchurch locations. All traffic does not at all go via Chorus - they're only a small part up to your provider where the providers own network takes over. If you wanted to get a more accurate comparison then you need to get multiple tests done to different locations outside of Auckland.

There is nothing to update on your router and as a 2degrees customer myself performance is great.

Brilliant cat, thanks very much...

funny thing is, in the past, I used to be quite paranoid about open ports and regularly run the gibson shields-up test, but that was while in the middle east... for some reason that habit stopped when I came home again...!! don't know why I felt safer here.. but

cheers CD

And what do you get over a LAN connection? Speedtests over wifi generally aren't much use.

Surely as a comparison pre and post a change without any hardware changes they would be a pretty good indication of how the change went?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I find it's always best to remove a potential chokepoint when doing troubleshooting.

I guess this has been answered here somewhere already, but I received the welcome to 2Degrees email -

'Hi there,

This is a quick email to let you know that your MyRepublic broadband services at XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX have moved to 2degrees – we’re stoked to have you on board!'

and am wondering how I'll know I've been moved over ? Got that at 10am and router still stays I'm on MyR at 5pm. Do they set this kind of thing to change overnight or something ?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

We got the welcome to 2Degrees email today.

Everything seems to be working the same.

Did a few speed tests using the Speedtest app. Speeds still around 900/500.

Speedtest app confirms we are on 2Degrees.

Landline is working.

Hope it stays that way.

I'm a little confused about if I actually need to tweak any of my ASUS AX-3000 settings coming from my Republic. I've seen people on both sides of the fence say different things so is it on a case by case kinda thing?

I haven't touched any settings on my ASUS AX-3000 and it's working fine.

Once you've got this message you will have been moved across, but because you're keeping the static IP from us this may cause systems that lookup the IP range ownership (like speedtest.net) to show as MyRepublic still for a bit despite running on the 2Degrees network.

Can also confirm as long as you're taking the migration arranged by us that router settings will remain the same as before, only those who sign up to 2degrees on their own will need to change to use the standard 2degrees settings.

So they've just switched me over to 2Degree's and I'm already stuck on the Billing for Broadband Services. They only offering me two payment options on my account page, "Direct Debit" and "Credit Card". I traditionally paid My Republic via Internet Banking Automatic Payment, and I want to do this with 2Degrees.

I've found this link (https://www.2degrees.nz/help/account-and-billing/billing-and-payment/understand-your-wireless-broadband-bill) which shows an account number for 'Wireless Broadband Services' : 02-0820-0188002-000

However, I'm not sure that its the same account that they use for 'Broadband Services' as on the help page for that, they only say Poli, Direct Debit and Credit Card (https://www.2degrees.nz/help/account-and-billing/billing-and-payment/paying-online-or-with-credit-or-debit-card-authority)

I did try to setup as a 'Bill' with ASB Internet Banking, but it doesn't accept account numbers with more than 7 digits (mine has 8, with no leading 0).

I would use Poli if that was an option in my Account Management Page (it's not).

Help anyone? I don't want to get locked into an extra 1.75% fee, Many thanks.
