Hi All, I have just received a call from 2degrees and had a very nice and helpful fellow work through some changes to the Fritzbox. It seems that 2Degrees had a change of system that has been rolled out and we were supposed to be informed by email in March as to this. We have no record of that email. The change that was required was to update the ISP to Callplus and a number of other tick boxes etc. We shall see this evening if it works.

So contry to other comments this was a 2Degrees issue for not informing that updates were required to the router.

Again a big thank you for all those who suggested fixes or helped. Putting the problem up on this forum was extremly helpful and 2Degrees did come to the party, my only wish is that they responded to my service requests.

And a thank you to 2Degrees.

cheers F

I will try and explain the fix:

Log into Fritzbox

Select Account Information

Change internet service provider to Callplus

Connect via: Select connection to an external modem or router

Operating mode: Select establish own connection to the internet

Account Information: Select no

Connection Settings Downstream 999 Upstream 999 (My guess this depends on your account as to what speed you have in your plan)

VLAN Settings: Tick Use Vlan for internet access Vlan ID 10 PBit 0

IP Settings tick Obtain the IP address automatically (DHCP)

DHCP host name fritz.box

Then at the bottom tick Check the internet connection after "Apply" has been clicked.

I understand that you only do this once your account has been transferred to Callplus?

I hope this helps others, cheers F

So the difference is connecting using DHCP instead of PPPoE ?

Linux: Franklinopdenbuysch So you are not even a 2degrees customer?

More like how changing the APN on a phone affects how traffic is routed i.e. through a different server.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CallPlus was a telecommunications company providing phone, calling, internet, mobile and advanced connectivity services to New Zealand businesses. Since 2016, CallPlus has been part of the Vocus Group, which is the third-largest telecommunications company in New Zealand, and fourth-largest in Australia.

Annette Presley and Malcolm Dick (married at the time) founded the company in 1996.[1][2] Presley, Dick, and Martin Wylie, former company secretary of Telecom New Zealand, are the company directors.

In 2001, CallPlus launched Slingshot - an Internet Service Provider (ISP) focusing specifically on the residential market, positioning CallPlus as a business telecommunications company. Also in 2001, CallPlus was the first provider in New Zealand to offer VOIP. Continuing to innovate, CallPlus was the first telco in New Zealand to offer SIP Trunk capability.

In 2012, the company launched Flip - a low cost ISP for the residential market.

In June 2014 the company bought internet service provider Orcon.[3]

In April 2015 the company was acquired by M2 Group.[4]

In 2016, M2 Group and Vocus Communications merged, forming Vocus Group, and in July 2017 CallPlus was rebranded to Vocus Communications - making Vocus Communications a full service telco for NZ businesses and organisations of all sizes.[5][6]

In February 2020, The Commerce Commission announced that CallPlus, along with other Vocus subsidiaries Orcon and Flip, had been fined $121,500 for billing customers after their contracts had ended. All three subsidiaries pleaded guilty to making false representations in invoices they sent to customers.[7]

Heard some stories from people using 2degrees internet in Nelson. They were experiencing slow internet speeds, especially during busy times of the day. I looked into it on Thursday night and Friday morning to see what was happening and found a problem, our experienced 2degrees engineers then fixed it right away.
This solution won't resolve all customer problems, but it will address similar issues to the one @Franklinopdenbuysch experienced. Thanks Franklinopdenbuysch for taking the time to post your results when the issue was impacting your service, really appreciate it, I can understand that was probably a frustrating few days.

Are 2d people being migrated to callplus servers? If so, are customers being notified because we've got a custom setup (only use the fritzbox for phone downstream), we use our own gear (unifi) to connect to 2d for internet. (we're still connecting via PPPoE)

Also, maybe unrelated, but recently nights have been getting congested for us too.

It's not due to local traffic either, it be chill'n round that time. (we're on 300/100)

Apparently we were notified in March about the migration. We do not have any email record about this at all so I very much doubt that we were contacted and informed. Perhaps you need to find out if you have been migrated? We certainly noticed the diference when it started this last Sunday evening. I began to notice websites loading a lot slower and that got me suspicious that something wans't right and began testing the speeds. Perhaps you will need to contact 2degrees but that didn't work for us, it was this thread that got the required response. Cheers F
