Still experiencing Xbox Live slow downloads on 2degrees. The workaround is to CNAME assets1. xboxlive.com to assets2.xboxlive.com

@boosacnoodle Tag in 2degrees staff in your post as thru this thread and include information they can work with like the actual speeds you are getting etc...

Yup still looks like there are issues as per my Smokeping.

 

We don't use Xbox so can't comment on the actual performance.

Whatever issues I had earlier, all resolved after resetting modem.

 

Was annoying but after reset, all good. Getting full 950mbps/450mbps approximately.

Yes, nothing has changed on my side. Still experiencing constant drops in speed and everything stalls for about 30-50min and then returns to normal.

 

 

 

The interesting thing to me is the dropped speed is always the same and consistent to about 1-10mbit.

Haven't noticed any issues like that here.

 

My speedtest tracker, which runs a few times in a 24 hour period, doesn't show any dramatic drops in the speed like that.

 

For it to be dropping that low it sounds like it could be a faulty cable or a port that's dropping to 10mb connection for some reason.

So I have some information to share here as I have had a new development and may have found the root cause but may need 2degrees to offer a solution.

 

I happened to come across this post on the forum which sounded very similair: https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=81&topicid=311695

 

So I decided to test some NZB's and noticed something... The NZB speed will start out slowly climbing up to about 60-70MB/s (~480-560mbit) at this point I can run a speedtest at speedtest.net or fast.com and I get the results I expect. At this point it has prob been 10-30 seconds I notice the speed of the NZB takes a sudden dive to 120mbit, exactly what I see in my speed tests when the speed drops. I can grab a different nzb and observe the same results over and over. I check my router and can see the throughput is capped at exactly 120mbit and any activity on the wan side for any other devices is crippled to single digit kb/s when this happens and I notice about 90% packet loss if I run a ping to another outside host like google, the packet loss is also observed on the wan side of my opnsense appliance. As long as I leave the NZB running at this speed I notice this issue, BUT I found something out - If I reduce the speed of the NZB to under 10MB's (~80mbit) everything instantly returns to normal.

 

I have set my NZB client to restrict speeds to 10MB/s about a week ago now and since that point I have not noticed that issue.

 

I can download any files or stream any media up to my full rated speed without issue but the NZB traffic is what is crippling my connection.

 

I have replaced my router 4 times now to try resolve this, I was first running a virtualised pfsense instance, bare metal pfsense instance, ftrizbox 7490 and now running a dedicated opnsense appliance that should be capable of routing multile gigabit connection without breaking a sweat but the issue remained.

 

Is there anyone at 2degrees who can understand the phenomenon?

@bonkas if you’re using Sabnzbd you can use the built in Speedtest. Here’s one on Quic 2Gbit Hyperfibre using Frugal Usenet along with Newsdemon.

 

 

It does really sound like you’ve done all the investigation you can. What providers are you using? May help drill things down.

That sounds similar to what happened to me when I was on Slingshot many, many years ago.  They seemed to have introduced a rate limit for Usenet traffic.  I had to switch to a different ISP to get proper speeds again.  And I had to use the CGA to tell them that no, I was not going to pay their contract break fee as they had not provided the service that I was paying for.  Were you on Slingshot before the merger?

Just a quick update on this issue.

I have recently moved house and it seems since this, the issue is gone!.

 

last 30 days has been flawless where previously I was having the issue every hour or two or multiple times in the hour.
