Just speaking for myself here (don't know about anybody else) - my connection has speeded up across the board - not just youtube.

Sorry I should have noted that.

My internet has sped up as well. It's definitely a lot better than it used to be - however, theres still room for improvement.

It is better. But not fully resolved as far as i'm concerned.

PS: is it just me, or does using VOIP absolutely suck on Orcon+?

Maybe its my codec..

Don't use VOIP - sorry, that's no help.

You're right. We should be getting ADSL2+ speeds if we're near - as I am - to the cabinet.

It's interesting how support people at ISPs focus so rapidly and strongly on network unknowns yet performance *mysteriously* gets worse and better with no other changes in the situation.

I hadn't checked for a week or but it really seems they have done something.

There is no pausing even though it is peak time

Yeah.. that is no help :P Was actually looking at moving over exclusively to VOIP/SIP.

but with the kind of crap that is happening at the moment.. I don't think so.

what are your line stats?

currently mine are

DownStream Connection Speed
18046 kbps

UpStream Connection Speed
1006 kbps

and a speed test below is pretty much what it is now.

Ouch mate. Might want to reformat your post.. copying and pasting doesnt work that well here :(

yeah, so we should be seeing better results I would think..

I will give them a week or so. If its still not good enough, I will re-open my fault ticket.

I had a quick nip and tuck at the post.

Orcon are - broadly-speaking - crap at handling fault tickets. They just go into black holes.

Hey sound dude.

It's very welcome, don't get me wrong, but it should have been working properly since the beginning of the year.

What have you been tweaking?

I've also noticed some improvement to YouTube performance but haven't been using it enough recently to really get an idea how much it has improved.

Re: VOIP, I have this set up but the only calls I've tried to make have been international and they have been abysmal failures. I need to make some local calls to see if the problem was with my speeds or at the other end.

The challenge for ISP's is to get a balance where all the streaming content providers will give their audience a good useable experience, not just YouTube today and MSN video tomorrow, or by just addressing the complaints of the moment. An example is on my Xtra I get good YouTube for cached stuff, miserable performance for non cached and all the other streaming content, I guess a YouTube cache will always be just a YouTube cache.

Is anybody from Orcon reading this? It's turning to crap again guys. Less than 1mbps from the US. For the last 3-4 nights it has been reasonable. So what's changed?

Internet browsing is also starting to get slower, not as snappy as it use to be. Downloading files is becoming a bit hit and miss.

Yeah we had a few days of 21st century broadband but last night felt like we were back in the dark ages again. (Excuse the hyperbole.)
