Sensational speed this morning. Completed all those big downloads in 8 minutes.

It'll be the international load, not the individual ISP.

Ditto

Last night 700MB took 93 minutes
This morning the remaining 1GB took 12 minutes

The day before 2.7GB took about 45 minutes in the morning.

Webpage speed seems slightly better than last night (dialup would have been faster last night) but download and streaming is impossible.

Not bad for me tonight. Over 4.00 Mb/s to California as well.

morning, no complaints :)

the fact that ping shots right up to dialup era during congestion really affects the "snappy-ness" of the browsing experience

hopefully it can be resolved soon....

Can you go into more details? Are you on Orcon or Orcon+. Where in NZ are you?

I am not seeing any congestion on our network or the handover links currently which would cause such bad local speeds.

Am on the Central Wellington exchange on Orcon+ and I have exactly the same problem as you have all been describing for the last few weeks.   Great international speeds during the day,  but at peak hours everything none local slows to a crawl to the point where the internet is barely usable (it took about 5 seconds to load a Dilbert cartoon in gmail).

Speed test tonight to CA - 0.64 down, 0.74 up.   Whereas to a local Wellington server I am getting 18.44 down and 0.84 up.

I used to be on orcon+, one of those cabinetisation lost souls, subsequently switched to purple plan. The speed is awesome now, maybe it's bad timing then? Not sure. I'm in North Shore Auckland, will continue to monitor, it has been pretty bad the past week.

Like alliao I'm also on Orcon purple, not +, live just north of the North Shore (Hibiscus Coast), and for the past couple of weeks have gone from a daytime/late night/early morning ping of 55ms into Auckland to 170-300ms between 5pm and 10pm at night, give or take an hour either side.

Seems like anywhere else in the country is fine, just Auckland and international latency affected (which is a pretty big kick in the teeth for doing anything during prime time). Also been that way for most of May so far, and gradually getting worse during prime time, whereas any other time of day is fine.

hmm strange

Can you send me some traceroutes to effected sites.

Both when the speed is slow and when the speed is great.

Thanks.

I can't seem to replicate the issue at home, which makes things hard.

Having the same issues, from approximately 4pm to 10:30pm/11pm, roughly. Get awesome speesd all day, and throughout the night, but anything international between 4pm to 11pm is just... unbelievably slow. I raid in  World of Warcraft 4 nights a week, Wed/Thurs/Sun/Mon, from 9:15pm to 1:30pm. Typically Wednesday is okay, but the other 3 raid nights I have to be substitute out for the first 1-1.5 hours as I just chain disconnect, and lag out. It hasn't been this bad in months, but it has for the last few weeks.

My ping from 9pm-10:30pm/11pm is roughly 350-500ms, spiking hard to 1000-2000+ ms, and chain disconnecting me as soon as combat begins, then my ping shifts to 250ms (my usual raid ping before these slow issues the last few weeks) between 10:30pm/11pm until 12am/12:30am, then back to my daytime ping of 150ms until the raid ends at 1:30pm. The server is in California, USA.

I remember last time something like this happened, Sounddude couldn't replicate it, but eventually Orcon gave in and ordered more international bandwidth (which they admitted here on these forums they hadn't ordered enough) and everything was fixed, for a good while.

I also ran orcondiagnostics.exe for the 24 hour test on Tuesday @ 5pm, by Wednesday @ 9pm it was on test 76 out of 9x, so much for it needing to take 24 hours :P

I'd ring up and complain as I did last time, but they will probably just say what they said last time, they can't see the problem, then after a few more weeks or customer complaints, they will again order more international bandwidth and everything will be back to normal again!
