1. Yes this is something special for Pay Monthly, however there is more to come for our Pay Monthly customers.

Hi 2DegreesCare - are you able to give us an idea as to when we may know more on this "more for our Pay Monthly customers", in particular what (if anything) may happen to the quantity of data provided on these plans?

The 500MB provided by the $29 plan really isn't enough to share across multiple devices (especially if one of these is a tablet), and the one-off of 2GB only helps new customers. A (permanent) increase of this to 1GB, as per the current temporary offering on the $19 pre-paid deal, would be a good move, I reckon.

Also, if there's the ability to share data across devices on these plans, it would also be excellent if one could also share call minutes.

Cheers

friendlymonkey: I don't think you can revert back, if you're referring to the old prepay standard plan?

If you started on Prepay Standard tried Prepay Plus but it doesn't work out for you, you can move back, but only once...  and there maybe a fee.

Cheers

Yup, I started on Prepay Standard.

Will do a cost-benefit analysis on any applicable fees.

600MB on the Standard prepay data combo was barely enough (would usually run out 3 to 4 days before the next period. 500MB on the prepay plus combo isn't enough - so staying with that would wind up costing more.

1 GB is probably the sweet spot.

I can't give details or definite timings but it will be very soon and we hope you'll like it! :-)

The extra 2GB is Carryover that lasts a year. Please PM your number so I can see when your term ends. ;-)

You can only share data if you're on a Pay Monthly plan, that's an incentive in itself!

Hmmm, interesting info. My $39 plan with 1gb data (which they no longer do) runs out in a couple of months and I am wondering what to do next. It would be nice to have data that rolled over.

Generally I just buy a plan with a free/cheap phone and then sell the phone and use the SIM in my existing phone. Might have to compare the costs against the prepay options. Its nice to have choice, but sometimes the choice gets a little overwhelming...

I see that new shared plans have been announced, and I saw reference on the thread discussing that topic that the pay monthly plans at and above $39 have had their data allowance increased - given these changes have been announced, does this mean the $29 plan is to be left at 500MB? And, if so, doesn't this leave the plan somewhat neutered and irrelevant, compared to this $19 plan?

Thanks
Jonathan

Not at all. Customers on the $29 plan now get more minutes (200 compared to 160) which are all Carryover as is the 500MB and is permanent.  The Carryover Combo has been upsized to 1GB and 180 mins till the end of January 2014 then it's back to 500MB which isn't Carryover and 90 mins which do.

Plus if customers sign up to a term plan they can get a free or subsidised phone.

Perhaps I should have worded it that the $29 plan is of poor value to those who want to share data across devices - and given that it is only data that can be shared, offering the same amount as on the $19 pre-paid plan (500MB) means that for the many people for whom data is important or for whom data sharing would be useful (eg, those with a phone a 3G tablet) and for whom the call minutes are of little consequence, they must pay an additional $10 just for the ability to share the same amount of data (or, alternatively, get 1GB for $20 a momth).

The changes to the $29 plan (increasing the minutes) will appeal to some but not those interested in data - and given it's data usage that's growing at a faster rater than phone calls, I'm surprised this has been the method chosen to "improve" the plan.

Personally, I'm not willing to pay that additional $10 just to be able to share that same 500MB across multiple devices - though I would have been fine paying that $29 if it had included 1GB (I have never once got through the minutes originally included in the $19 plan!). The solution appears to have been provided by a friend who's offered to let me piggy-back on his data as he doesn't get through his current allocation. The net result, if this goes ahead, is I stay on the $19 plan and there'll be no additional revenue for you guys. While I may be just one individual case, I'd imagine that I'm not an isolated one - I wonder if it would be sensible to put more focus on providing decent data as part of your plans as this may indeed help sell them.

I agree, more data would be appreciated. There was already enough minutes on the $29 plan. Prepay looking like a cheaper and more attractive option.

There is also the option of signing up for the $20 1gb carryover data pack and then using that to share? While I am pretty sure we cant offer the text pack on this we can offer a minute pack if you do need a small amount of calling with it.

My opinions are purely my own and are not at all those of my employer 2degrees.

I moved my phone from $49/month to VF who offered a better deal for me and mainly I wanted LTE.

I moved my wife from $29 pay monthly (she had over 600 minutes in credit) to $19 prepay because it didn't make sense to keep on paying $29. The big loser is my son who was on no prepay plan. He was sharing my data (which he can't do now of course) and would normally either call me and hangup or text me using Google Voice so he would not incur any costs.

I have to put him on a $19 plan also now.

Actually on reflection maybe I should have left my wife on $29 and then my son could have shared her data (she hardly ever uses data apart from WeChat and checking the weather - most of the time she's on WiFi).

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

We've upped the Carryover data on the $39 and above plans as well as increased the amount of Carryover Minutes.
