gehenna: I had my VDSL installed last week. I've gone from 12ish Mbps down and about 800Kbps up, to 63Mbps down and 10Mbps up.
I'm loving it.

hio77: for 9db atteuation, your download speed looks a little slow, i suspect no central filter. (one will be installed as part of the vdsl installation)
ild expect you to be about 20~35mbit downstream. (2.5~4.3MB/s around about.)

THanks. I have ordered it. The guy is coming next Monday.
So they will install this central filter? Do VDSL use their own central filter that is not compatible with the ADSL one?

swashbuckler: Hi,
Just discovered that VDSL was available and have been looking into it a bit and thinking about upgrading. Here is my current router stats and speedtest (both over ethernet). Can i expect much of an upgrade?
Upstream / Downstream
Actual Data Rate 1005 (Kbps.) / 13954 (Kbps.)
Upstream / Downstream
Noise Margin 12 dB / 11 dB
Attenuation 4 dB / 10 dB
Also have a few questions, Currently on Genius, I get a new modem and have to rely on third party options for VOIP headsets right?, Also we are currently renting at our house, will the installation require of any work done to the the house? Im pretty sure that i do not have a master splitter installed although i'm not too sure as to what it even looks like.
Thanks for your help.

hio77: 10db attenuation, probably about 25~35/10
wouldnt be a bad upgrade for you!
as part of a VDSL installation, a central filter will be installed, pretty minor work needed to be carried out.
in terms of your landlord, installing a filter will be an improvement for dsl connections in future for them too.
as for the VOIP itself, i cant help there. im sure an orcon person will make comment on it.
jscriv: Hi all,
Haven't seen this posted elsewhere, but apologies if it already has.
I'm wondering why Orcon VDSL (unlimited cap) is more expensive than ADSL and fibre (unlimited plans). If it was purely down to speed then I'd expect fibre to be the same as VDSL.
Other providers seem to be able to offer VDSL at same price as ADSL?
Cheers,
Jeremy.
