Hi all,

We know some of you have been especially keen to get your hands on Orcon VDSL, so we're stoked to announce that VDSL plans are now available (if you're in a VDSL zone).

Check out our plans and see if you can get it here: www.orcon.net.nz/home.

If you have any Qs, just let me know! Enjoy VDSL. :)

Cheers,

Cam

Just asked on Twitter but since you're here ... :)

I presume the Genius router won't handle this, so is there a process from switching from an existing Genius account to a new VDSL account?

AKA this i what I want to do :)

Yes, just sign up and we will swap out your current black Genius router for a white one that is VDSL capable.

Awesome, so does a tech need to come to the house to do any provisioning or is it all done at the exchange/cabinet and I just need to plug in the new router for a seamless cutover?

VDSL2 is now (08 Jan) being offered on the Orcon website.
Enter your physical address to check VDSL availability.
$119 pm for (truly) unlimited, $95pm for 80GB (for a 12m contract without the optional extras).
As an existing Orcon ADSL Genius customer, I phoned the call centre to check whether there was a termination fee for my existing contract - there was not, as this is an upgrade.
Connection within 4-10 working days (the Chorus brownout will be over on Monday)
No connection fee.
New VoIP modem supplied (It looks quite different from the old Genius ADSL modem). Free rental. I keep my existing VoIP number.

*This info is based on my own personal upgrade experience, YMMV*

The Chorus tech installed a VDSL splitter at the demarcation point, we used the pre-existing cable from there to the modem (we have naked DSL). He then contacted someone at at their office, they changed the line from ADSL > VDSL within a few minutes. He confirmed the VDSL line sync & was done.

I plugged in our new modem, then was up & running within a few minutes.

I believe the VDSL modem is a NetComm Wireless NF4V - http://www.netcommwireless.com/product/vdsl/nf4v

It's quite nice :)

Update: Worked fine with Firefox... IE not so good!! :)

Details such as operating system and browser may help. Have you tried a different browser?

Currently on Slingshot and really appreciate their 99.9% torrent cache.  Speeds things up to no end.

Does Orcon have anything similar?

Yes, however ours is transparent so you won't notice it's there.

Hi

Does the new VDSL Router come with a built in handset (like the Genius Black) or do you have to use a third party one?

Thanks
