Handsomedan:

Xeon:

Bit of hassle but got an esim loaded onto my Galaxy Watch 5.

Store 1: Refused to sell me an esim when I mentioned a watch
Store 2: Sold me an esim but didn't load any number on it, they just gave me a blank esim
Store 3: Sold me an esim and then activated a brand new physical prepay sim and swapped the number over to the esim

Because there's not a proper wearable plans, it's just a separate prepay sim but 2degrees data sharing works fine to it.

I think I'll wait for proper wearables support for my AWU.

As much as I really would have liked to be able to leave my iPhone behind while out and about at Christmas, it is what it is.

@Xeon, you've done well hacking together your own eSIM product solution for your Galaxy watch, nice work!

@Handsomedan, you can't do the same thing on an Apple Watch, doesn't have that openness, it requires everything to be in place between the carrier and Apple.

Assuming there is no further news or updates on eSIM for wearables?

Did a bit of a search and couldn't find anything...my Apple Watch Ultra is itching for this final bit of functionality!

I think that for most mobile operators the focus is probably on improving the ability to provision eSIM's on phones in preparation for possible eSIM only iPhones to launch in Sept this year. The iPhone 14's in the US that launched last year were eSIM only and there was a lot of speculation at the time that this would be the case for the rest of the world this year. Because of the sheer number of new model iPhones that will be sold the current clunky eSIM process that most mobile operators have (QR code) needs to be improved so that it is much easier to;

- Sign-up online or in a mobile app and get an eSIM delivered immediately

- Buy a new iPhone and move your connection from a physical SIM over to an eSIM

- Buy a new iPhone and move your eSIM from old iPhone to new iPhone yourself.

I think these will be more important to most mobile operators in preparation for possible eSIM only iPhones coming in September than supporting wearables, of course with enough resources they could do both. But achieving the processes outlined above in a simply way for users is actually quite challenging.

I've been dying to ask but didn't want to be yelled at.

It is annoying my watch is still not connected to a network - I'll give you that. It appears that 2degrees / One are operating at snails pace here. Personally I'd love my watch to be connected as I paid extra for the LTE model hoping that 2degrees would have it soon.

I'd say however nobody from 2degrees will give Geekzone any information on this before the general public.

So...the general public are going to give us the info before 2Degrees will?

Yeah, my ultra is just screaming out for cellular connectivity and it's getting to the point that I may take my phone to Spark and have done with 2D if they don't get a wriggle on. Not that they'll care - I'm a low-value customer that they can afford to lose.
