They are known to have good speeds and good service.
But if you're considering switching, it would be premature to do so without seeing what snap has to offer first. The question is how long they take to do so, whether its within the next few weeks or waiting until bigger competitors release their own plans.

From what the Twitter page has indicated, Snap are reviewing their prices but consider themselves competative enough at present so I'm not expecting anything decent.

A shame this is, especially with even FullFlavourMedia dropping their prices by what they stated will be $20 minimum. Although I'm unsure this includes or excludes GST.

It is for me. I'm a snap customer and would jump at VDSL at similar prices to what I pay now, but at the moment its $50 more for the same service, just faster speeds and I cannot justify that at all.

maybe we should start a official (ish) petition to snap saying we would all love to change to their vdsl service if they lowered their prices by the $20.

Good to see everyone is doing their homework!

Just a couple of things to point out and make sure its an apples for apples comparison, some plans include GST and some don't, and some include CPE while others don't.

Right, off the kick the product team harder ;)

I know I could have hit the shiny +1 button but I wanted to make a point that I feel exactly the same way. Fibre is years off my place, but I have VDSL capability right now (short of a VDSL capable modem...) and would switch straight away if it was say within $5 (ideally) from what I currently pay now for ADSL 2+.

I think everyone should just be patient, we've just had another confirmation that change might be coming soon. It's quite a bit more than just changing some numbers.

Good things take time, like cheese and the like.

edit: Thanks for the reminder to account for GST, i've fixed voyager's pricing in the list. I always get a bit annoyed when companies quote GST exclusive prices unless its specifically business only, but hey.

Voyager is actually terrible value at all levels. Actrix at the moment is the only point of comparison. I am aware of fullflavour also but their plans are unnmetered, and as soon as you go in that territory there are other variables you have to account for.

CPE is definitely something worth mentioning too. Actrix offer a cheap low end dynalink for $180 plus shipping, and it only has wireless G! what on earth... Gigabit is of course nowhere to be seen either. They also ask for a 12 month minimum contract.

I've just looked at the ADSL + POTS and VDSL + POTS. Is there a physical difference in the POTS implementation? At present, I see ADSL Naked vs POTS with a $5 difference but VDSL Naked to POTS is $30 difference. Ignoring the higher starting price point for VDSL, why is POTs vs naked so high?

IF chorus have cut the price to the same as ADSL, and assuming all things remain equal, I would expect to pay the same for VDSL + POTS as ADSL + POTS.

Wouldn't touch Voyager with a 10 foot pole. Other people's experience's may be different but we are dealing with their VoIP team and communication is a bit rubbish. Price's are nothing special either.

Personally I don't see the problem paying another $20 considering the speed is going to be 3 times faster than ADSL.

I do notice that 2Talk's VDSL has been bought down in price and only $10 more than ADSL.

My issue is that if a product has been cut in price and is now no longer a premium product, why should it carry a price premium?! I understand companies will try to get as much as they can, a service is only worth what people are willing to pay for it... However I still don't understand why Snap are currently charging an extra $30 for VDSL with Pots over Naked VDSL...

They are only beat snap at the 100gb price point, but actrix still beats them.

After making this list, snap is actually more competitive than expected. Though keeping in mind that most people probably have VOIP or a phone line which does introduce more variables to cost. Im not going to work out the pricing of that and all the differences.

Keep in mind it still costs to deliver the increased bandwidth for VDSL, that definitely increases the costs to maintain a high level of service. VDSL is still a premium product imo for this reason.

I understand that, but I pay for my bandwidth through extras, so that should not be counted. Where would the additional costs lie to make it more expensive since it still uses existing copper.

That's a good point. There are many factors involved in delivering a higher speed service, im sure someone at an ISP or familiar with their costs could point them out. I imagine infrastructure upgrades might be necessary to cope with overall higher throughput. And a high speed service is going to be a lot more bursty in bandwidth usage than a lower speed.
ISPs pay by the megabit or gigabit per second, whereas customers pay the ISPs per gigabyte of usage. Dealing with 1000 ADSL2+ customers on a 150gb plan would be easier than dealing with 1000 customers on a 150gb VDSL2 plan, particularly during peak times.

Anyway, we know a price cut is coming soon enough, but it will definitely still be at a premium to ADSL services. It'll be up to the market to decide exactly how much.

Well, I ended up going with Full Flavour Media in the end. Loving it so far.

I also reduced my internet bill from 170 p/m to 119 incl. Well worth it imho
