Looks like Chorus is cutting their pricing on Premium copper product. Great timing as I'm looking to leave Orcon Adsl2 behind and move to Snap VDSL at the end of the year once my contract is up. I hope this leads to a reduction in the premium price of VDSL for us retail users

I'd be very interested in getting VDSL if I could get my current data cap with VDSL for a similar price; At the moment I'm not interested in paying an extra $30 when I won't get very much of an increase in download speed.

Well doing a bit more reading it looks as though they are reducing the price to the exact same wholesale price Chorus currently charges for their ADSL lines. So Snap wouldn't be losing any money by making their VDSL plans the exact same price as their ADSL with the same Data caps.

If anything, I can see it as being a big win for them if they do reduce the price to Adsl retail offerings, as they will be able to pull Adsl customers from providers such as Orcon who don't offer Vdsl at all

If this is the case and Snap can make money by reducing to the same price, it would be an instant change from ADSL to VDSL!

This would surely be absorbed in the data cap limit, so if they could offer VDSL at the same price as ADSL now, data transit is surely the same no matter how it is connected?

I suppose so, just that they'd have to buy more bandwidth for <x> VDSL customers than they would for <x> ADSL2 customers, once they reach big enough numbers, I guess.

They would know how much to buy given histroical trends/patterns in usage and max data cap for all users; the price of VDSL I always thought was simply its premium cost and not data usage or connectivity.

I really do hope this leaves us with combined VDSL/ADSL services in the same way we have ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+, With UFB happening Copper services could do with a better selling point.

I've been looking at VDSL services recently since I have been informed I may be moving soon.

Does anyone know if Chorus will become more lenient with the attenuation limit? Mine's 21db on ADSL2+, which is probably too high under the current standards?
Very much want faster upload, even if the download wouldn't change much.

No.

Poor VDSL connections will impact closer connections through crosstalk and UPBO.
