Slingshot: Looks like there were some troubles for BBC iPlayer earlier today but they look to be resolved now. Might need to clear your browser and DNS caches but you should be good. Cheers,

Thanks Chris...now I get a "This Content doesn't appear to be working" error instead of the Geoblock one, which is a step in the right direction at least!

So is this done by a sort of automatic VPN or a dns service?

If it's dns, how does it work exactly? Does the content still get sent via another server in the us before getting to me? I know how VPN work just not this

Slingshot got so much free talk about them - more than any paid PR/marketing budget would achieve.

yep, but mostly from people who can't buy Slingshot products (because they aren't in NZ)

Also, likely it now has much more attention from the studios etc, which is not what you want.

True, but if we are too insignificant to deliver their content to on a legitimate basis, then logic would suggest we are too insignificant to worry about when it comes to bypassing their silly blocks so we can give them more money.

But logic has never been the strong point of foreign content providers.

I wish other ISP's would follow and do the same, However vodafone won't because they sell sky and their own TV, Telecom won't because they're launching their own service. Wonder if callplus will also let flip and orcon uses use it

In my case, if Telecom doesn't move to match sharply, I may move to Slingshot.

difference is, that we may be too small a market to care enough about the $$, but if they let NZers get away with unblocking, it sets a precedent for other, larger, countries (like Australia) to do the same thing.

Australia, who apparently are also too small to care about providing content to.

I see where you are coming from though. Netflix and other content providers and content creators need to get their A in to G and realize every connected country in the world is practically next door to one another. The geo fence dividing us needs to come down...But I'm guessing it will be built up higher!

Does anyone know what other sites Slingshot Global Mode has unblocked? On their website they say they've unblocked two dozen - but I can only find reference to Netflix, Hulu, BBC iplayer and Amazon Prime in the news reports. Thanks
