hio77: sounds like a bit of confusion.. maybe ralph can sort it for ya..

as for hardware wise apart from the wireless..

the 7490 has a 600mhz cpu vs the 500mhz in the 7390.

there is a minor difference in flash configuration and ROM allocations which could be an issue if you wish to use Freetz - but if your running snaps firmware anyway, which you should for ufb, i see this as a nullissue.

7490 is a strong device, however the 7390 preforms well even on 200/200

i have seen no mention of the 7490 being required until now.

They were able to answer my other question regarding the 24 month contract period and end date of the promotion, so it wasn't a wasted call and the usual friendly service was there. Just a bit off regarding the 7490 so thought I'd check here.

Yeah from the German reviews, and some Australian reviews, I could find indicated the key difference was the wireless, and since both have Gigabit Ethernet I'm not sure what I would need from the new model.

No need to take the new 7490. Your existing 7390 will be absolutely fine (with a new firmware upgrade), but obvisouly the wireless is not quite as good as the new 7490. Judging by your other posts the wireless capability is an issue.

So an easy upgrade, no extra $$ required, just a re-commit to a new term.

Hope this clears up any confusion - we'll beat the offending CSR now ;)

1. Is it correct that from today when my plan is changed that I'll get 200 down - I would have thought until everything is finalised with Enable that I would be on my old plan? We can provision you on 200/20 over Enable today if you want, or wait until until the 200/200 plan is available over Enable early November so you only have 1 plan change - we don't mind which option you choose.

2. If I go on the new plan today (being just the 200 down and not the 200 up), why should I be charged the extra $10 until the full plan is available - my reasoning on this is that the 200/20 plan would be $20 cheaper than what I am currently on so 200/50 (which is what I would be on from today) should be somewhere between the price of the 200/20 and the 200/200 plans i.e. exactly where I am at the moment - Ralph? If you move to the 200/20 then there's no difference in base pricing - this is $110 which is the same as the now retired 100/50.

3. If I go on the new plan today but the new speeds (up and down) are not available in Christchurch until things are sorted with Enable, then when will I start paying the $10 extra and will I be guaranteed of this rate eve if it takes Enable and Snap a few months to sort? Absoutely - we will honour the $10 U/L promo even if the 200/200 plans are not available from Enable (& UFF) before the end of the promo offer - but you would need to have a confirmed order in with us for the 200/200 service before the prom ends 16/11.

4. And finally - how do we go about measuring whether we are actually getting the new speeds. I typically use Speedtest.net, however this only goes up to 100Mbps? Is there another site people use or will Speedtest.net actually measure past 100Mbps even though the dial/display only shows up to that speed? When I called this morning I asked the rep to change my plan so I assume that it is underway - if they move me to 200 down, can I keep the 50 up until Enable can do the full 200/200 - I don't mind paying what I currently pay ($139) to have this otherwise on a 200/20 I assume I'll be going down to ($120), which would be a loss for both Snap and me

I can see the change request has come in to Enable today, unfortunately it will be for the 200/20 as that's the best profile currently available. Hopefully only a few weeks to wait until we can charge you more money ;)

ok i switched from the 50/50 plan i was on, to the 100/20 plan and im just wondering if the 7340 will be ok . I bought it when you first stocked them so it is old [3 years] and im finding my connection drops connection a lot for 2-3 seconds. I rang support to see if i had the right update and was told that if i update it through the Fritxbox then it will be the one that Snap has developed, im now on 6.06. Is this right .

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Hmmm - wouldn't be happy with this as mine is, like yours, quite some way off (14th of November) and then if for example the Enable issue was sorted on the 20th of November would that mean both of us wouldn't go to the 200/200 plan until the 14 (or in your case 16th) of December?

Ralph - surely you can make this happen straight away for your keenest customers - we are after all the ones singing your praises, and that of UFB, the loudest!!!

We'll try and make sure the helpdesk are clear about this.

Hopefully most of the guys on GZ are in the former category ie already on U/L and only changing the underlying access speed.

interesting, because I called and did the change/upgrade to 200/20 last Friday as soon as I got the promo from Canterbury Homeshow, speed still the same at the moment 100/50.

Hi Ralph,

I called to change from 100/50 unlimited to 200/20 unlimited last Friday. So by your description, this should have been actioned by today? I have actually received a call from Snap (Chris I think?) today that he needed to do something with the fritzbox. So does this mean my plan has been successfully changed and it has become effective now?

I am confused because last Friday Snap staff told me on the phone that I will be expecting a call from Chorus this week. Then when I called again on Saturday, a different Snap staff told me that my new plan wouldn't become effective until next billing cycle.

I have PM you my user name. Much appreciated if you could confirm my status.
