NickMack:

Hi mate,

Who yanked your chain :-) As per my comments earlier, we are investigating, seems to potentially coincide with adding more 10 gig lags to our AKL->USA direct express route. We are working with our upstream provider to investigate as well as making some tuning changes on our side.

Once I know more, I'll share (as I do..) ;-)

Nick.

Ah apologies! Didn't see that part :) Thanks for investigating!

Update - 23/04/19

Hi All,

Late last week we deployed metric changes to our LAGs to the US,  we have also implemented some adjustments to our shapers in LAX which has further aided in smoothing things out on the US international links. There is some additional tuning that we can do on our PTX’s - We are seeking some additional guidance/confirmation from our hardware vendor.

In addition to this, we have ordered some additional capacity for our US direct path - We have two paths to the US, this additional capacity will be on the short path which will decrease latency significantly and improve our customer experience during peak times.

Nick.

I am curious: what determines whether traffic gets to travel on the short path vs the long path?

Hiya,

A couple of things :-) The long path is predominately there as a backup should we have a failure on a major direct path to the US, We also have our Trans Tasman paths to assist if required.

Hiya,

Earlier today I requested an update, I'll update once I have a reply. Just to be clea r- We have enough overall capacity direct to the US, we have a fast path, and a slightly slower path - This upgrade will add additional capacity to the faster path. :-)

@nickmack stick the heavy hitters on the slow path and all will be fine.

You can start with Laurenceo, murphy and samf ;)
