Is Vodafone blocking data tramissions, today we are having ongoing connection failures all day on both our 2degree phones, no problems with speech, this has just happened today and I'm wondering if data has been blocked to all so as to allow for all the extra traffic in this area, especially being end of the year.

No one is blocking any traffic it's called over loading in Holiday hot spots and not sure why are you asking this in the Vodafone section if you are a 2Degrees customer?

2Degrees has a section here on Geekzone

Voice always has priority on any mobile network

was asked in the Vodafone section as they are the carriers in this area not 2degees.
Overload I accept, but not 24 hour and still on going, plus it did not occur over the Xmas period, are you saying that data has been turned of due to excess load on the Vodafone cell that serves Lake Rotoiti, Rotorua.
Other servers in the area are not having any problems.

You are a 2Degrees customer, You really should only be dealing with your provider (I don't mind adding some value if possible)

I Never advised data was turned off I advised Voice has priority over packet switch data (internet access)

Trust me it will be overloading, Not sure what other servers you are speaking of either

was just checking Geekzone as we're seeing the same issues.

Unable to get any mobile data with a Vodafone SIM at Lake Rotoiti - showing as connected to 3G, but no data.

I don't accept this to be "overloading" - there are not that many people here connecting to mobile data at 10am on New year's morning.

Don't accept it's overloading I can't change your mind, Guess you have better access to INFO about cell site loading than I do

The Vodafone cell has to carry a lot of traffic not just Vodafone traffic in that location but 2Degrees as well,

Twizel is a small place and that 3G site has over 8 X times the normal traffic load on it during Christmas / New Years

I do not see how dealing with 2degrees can help when they are using Vodafone in this area, I believe in dealing with those that are responsible for the problem, in this case insufficient cell capacity.
The other server gives me uninterrupted mobile data regardless of the time of year, albeit a bit of a slow down from time to time but never a blanket no connection for data with a full strength signal.

It would appear that Vodafone offer Data services as a secondary service away from the main populated centres. Are customers advised of this??

Any service if it's voice or data is best effort and congestion may happen at Holiday Hot spots, I suggest you read the Terms and conditions for your service provider who is not Vodafone,

edit: Nice to see someone has moved this thread to the correct place

I accept greater loading at this time of year, and accept you know more than we do, but what we're seeing is absolutely no data access for 24 hours which just doesn't smell right.

If it was overloading, then you'd typically expect to see periods of data access, then dropped data when loads picked up. If it's a blanket blockage to Vodafone customers here at Lake Rotoiti - when can we expect this to be lifted?

We know how many people come here at New Years - not significantly more than were here two days ago, and we've been coming here for years without data issues at New Years.

So, the answer of overloading just doesn't feel like enough to explain the length and completeness of this issue. Unless you've turned on a blanket data access block to all customers here at Lake Rotoiti, if I were running your network operations centre I'd take another look to check there isn't some other issue.

Given that 2D are your provider, and it is them that you have the relationship with, then they are the ones you should be dealing with. You have no direct business relationship (in this case) with Vodafone. In your words, you should deal with those that are responsible for insufficient cell capacity - given that your provider has no capacity (i.e. insufficient), perhaps you should contact them.

How do you connect to a different server?

Guess you have never been to Christmas in the park in Auckland Domain which is in Auckland CBD

Auckland is New Zealand's biggest city and you still get congestion during major events,

He means he has a Telecom 3G connection not another server,

You can also add Ohakune to the list nearly every weekend in the winter when the population at least quadrupoles.

I don't work in the NMC team and they have done checks, I spoke to them this morning
