I don't know if this is already installed, or when it was installed - trying to find out.

Interesting.
Didnt know we had agreed to a press release,but we did so i am told.

This is old news. Bizo which we acquired some time ago already used this, we have simply updated the licences to unlimited domains.

We use it currently for outbound mail scanning and planning the install for inbound (in the consumer space).

Quite a lot of work currently happening in the mail space.

Just hope they don't treat real emails as spam. My spam filter is disable at Orcon because of that reason. I prefer to let outlook do it for me..

We can never guarantee 100% that we wont trap legitimate mail. However it will be significantly better than it is now.
We are considering a portal to let people see what is in their spam trap and make a decision about it as well. Lots of things to consider around that though.

I can say though that the mail platform as a whole is getting a lot of attention at the moment. Some of the things we are doing are:
* Replace spam and aav scanning/filtering for inbound
* Upgrade of the above for outbound scanning
* Major storage overhaul
* Platform consolidation

I will answer questions about it if any one is interested, with in reason of course. If i cant say something ill let you know.

And sometimes its hard to be positive it was false, some people like to send email that really looks like spam, but isnt;)

My experience of ISP filtering of Spam email traffic is not positive and I don't use it. This is primarily because emails that are classed as Spam by the ISPs filter are never presented for download to a client like OE/Outlook etc. You have to use the ISPs webmail app to find them and deal with false positives.

In contrast almost all good AV software offers Spam detection. All emails are downloaded to the client and then analysed. Filters can be used to identify what the AV software declares as Spam and therefore dealing with false positives is vastly easier and faster.

I hope it does a better job than vodafones, all the email the filter marks as spam (false and true positives) just vanish in to a black hole, no way to find out what is been filtered out and do something about the false positives.

I use Office 365. Every week I receive an email with all the spam blocked. If I look through the list and see one that is clearly not spam I can just click a link and have it delivered. Painless as that. Having said that, I don't remember seeing a false positive in ages. Microsoft Forefront is pretty good at spam catching.

At the moment some of the settings aren't as effective as they should be, and of course translation between the two platforms will need to be done.

@gregmcc. Mail isn't going to be discarded outright at this stage. Many systems do that though because it saves a very large amount of processing of spam.
I have run mail systems where 95% + of mail incoming was spam, stopping that hitting the scanners reduced our mail scaner platform from ~12 servers to 4.
So we have to consider that option as well.

@oldgeek. Are you saying you would like what we think is spam tagged and left in the inbox?

I would like to review it for possible false positives

Currently we use the settings set by the customer and either mark it as spam or delete it.

If you mean the dropping of spam before it enters the scanners, Orcon has never done that. I have in other places I've worked.

I think there has been some confusion going on here, I do realise that the topic is related to Orcon's spam filter, but if you look near the start of the topic I was refering to what Vodafone do with their spam filter wher all the spam just vanishes from the face of the earth. BTW I would more than welcome a comment from someone at vodafone to confirm or deny this
