So, I've been connected to snap VDSL for a little over a month now.

Since my initial connection problems and phone problems things have been pretty smooth.

Internet speed has been 100% perfect and easily match Telecom.

Snaps VOIP phone service is still not quite as good as a standard pots telephone connection.  My main complaint is using the phone keypad to navigate interactive answering systems does not always work.   Ironically it does not even work with Snaps own voice answering system.   Other than that , the connection quality and receiving/making calls is generally as good as pots (although maybe a tad slower to connect).

As for the fritzbox -- that has been my main disappointment as most reviews say it is the best thing since sliced bread.

I've failed to get the integrated dect base station to reliably work with my panasonic dect-gap phones.  On paper, my phones should be 100% compatible.

The fritzbox wireless-n speeds are terrible compared with my linksys E4200. I've just disabled the fritzbox wireless radios and use my linksys instead .

So basically the fritzbox is just a modem with a couple of phone ports for VOIP enablement. Overhyped given wireless/dect are not working for me.

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

DECT works perfectly with my newer Panasonic handsets. They lose some features due to not being connected to a panasonic base station, such as showing caller ID, but they work well otherwise. Beacause i wanted caller ID to function i've connected.

DTMF tones being broken on menus is a known problem which they are working on fixing. A bit of pain but if i really need an 0800 numbers voice menu to work ive just used my cellphone, until its sorted.

WiFi being poor is not an unknown thing. It's probably the biggest complaint about the fritzbox, how poorly its wifi speed and/or range is. I too have disabled the internal wireless and continued using my old router as an access point, as have several other users.
I think this is an issue considering how this router is also used for UFB services and would be a bottleneck if posts here are anything to go by.

Interesting that your panasonic phones work OK.

My problem is that the fritzbox keeps 'losing' them requiring them to be reregistered. And, sometimes the phone would disconnect on answering. Stuff like that.   But, the handsets are 3 or so years old.

Mine are from the KX-TG67** range

If you happen to get fly buys, these handsets can be had for not too much:

Not sure if their lower end ones support it.
