I've been getting my fritz box to email me with its setting daily, recently got a chance to look at the number. I haven't changed any of the setting since the initial set-up but there is a distinct change in sync speed 3 months ago with a 9mbit drop in sync speed. Is this normal? I've attached a figure of the plot (note there are two separate axis upload on the right)

No master splitter but only one line is connected directly to the FritzBox.
VDSL connection, in wellington CBD (near te papa).

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

for vdsl, the rates dont look so pretty.. almost able to bet this is simply DLM doing its thing.

the S/N is 16 (sometimes 15). Line attenuation 15-16 but drops down to 11 for a few months.

from 16 to 11, is a decent change in attention.. something doesnt seem right there...

take a screenshot of your dsl stats, and the graphed pages?

more so interested in what your line is currently looking like rather the weird things its done over time currently.. your attention, with thoses speeds just doesnt sound right.

rather excessive resyncs there too...

Can you just confirm what you mean by this? Are there any other jackpoints in the house (even if they have nothing plugged into them?)

Right now I am on an ADSL2+ connection, I wanted to see if there was much different in speed. I've attached my stats for ADSL. I have put through an order to change back to VDSL, so can post an update in a few days hopefully

There are a bunch of other jack-points. When the Chorus tech came to set it up, he disconnected these from the splitter (Live in an apartment building so it was located in a cupboard, and was just a case of pulling out the other wires). So the line comes in, and then connects to the splitter, which only has the one jack point still connected .

How do you know there was lots of resyncs? the data I collected was just from the daily email the fritzbox sends

assumption on the resyncs is made simply by your sync speed changes. a resync would occur for a change like that.

your line doesnt look too bad there, unfortunately, while on adsl2, its a bit harder to see what the issue exactly is.

how about your spectrum? (once again, limited by the lack of a vdsl profile here..)

at 9db on adsl2, ild expect about a 11~12db on vdsl.. which should still get pretty good speeds, and almost certainly the full upstream.. your connection only ever seemed to get near 1/4 of that..

your error rates look fine, there, but once again, adsl, cant even begin to pull an assumption from that.

your adsl speeds seem a little low for 9db however... what are your performance settings on? dragged back to stability by any chance?

Settings are on Maximum Performance. I've attached a picture of the spectrum. I did think it was a bit low, do you think a master splitter would help performance?

The ADSL sync speed is the same on the FRITZbox and also a netcomm modem that I have.

no, if you do indeed have a single connection, a filter wont really do anything.. no point in filtering nothing right?

used to looking at vdsl spectrum, yours looks huge compared to one..

fair few dips there, your bits seem to taper off real fast if that trend carries throughout, theres not much of the vdsl spectrum to be had there..

get your connection changed over, then we can have a proper look at the rates.. could be the quality of the copper in the apartment possibly..
