I just found out through the ultrafast site that my place is all go for fibre!

Looks like only Orcon at the moment?
Does fibre require a new modem?

$99 unlimited sounds good

I must admit I'm hopeful for it as changed over to Naked on slingshot and i haven't been to impressed of late with the line quality hopefully the fibre will sort all that out.
Damm this will be good it will be like living in Europe 5 years ago.

I would suggest checking Snap's website to see when you can get fiber through them.
And yes you will be getting a new modem.

Snaps no good dont have unlimited and they seem to only go upto 100 a months I usually get through 250 to 350 a month thanks though

Snap have addon packs.
30/10 UFB with base 100 + 250 extra will cost $100.

And they are streaks ahead of Orcon in my opinion.
No traffic shaping and unlimited 1am to 7am

Considiring how rare FTTH is across Europe that should really read "in Europe in 5 years time"

Within another year the UK will have FTTN infrastructure (using ADSL2+ and VDSL2 when close to the node) that replicates what NZ has had for the last 2 years. They don't quite match NZ though with 83% of premises having internet speeds of 10Mbps or greater.

Fibre requires an Ethernet router. Most consumer grade xDSL modems have no ability to support an Ethernet WAN connection, but this is changing.

If you want to use your own router it also needs to support VLAN tagging on the WAN interface (unless your ISP configures an untagged UNNI port), which once again most routers don't support but this is changing.

I dont have clue what you are talking about LOL All i know is when I visit the uk last year it took me 5 mins to download a tv show compared to 30 and that was in just ordinary domestic households. There seemed to be wifi everywhere not that it mattered as unlimited phone data was less than 20 pound a month. I bet that 83% you are talking about are all in Auckland or Wellington.
