So Snap Plus offers voicemail.
And the Fritzbox has a built in answering machine.
As does my Panasonic cordless phone.

At the moment we're using snap voicemail but would like a visual indication on the cordless phone. It's connected via Analogue FON1 as direct DECT connection will not show caller ID on the screen. http://panasonic.co.nz/products/phones-and-phone-systems/home-phones/kx-tg6722/

This is enabled on the fritzbox FON1:

Message waiting indication on the telephone (MWI)
FRITZ!Box notifies you by telephone when new messages arrive at the mailbox of your telephone provider. New messages are indicated by an entry in your telephony device's Call List.
Send information
-for every new message
-new voice message

However i cannot see any indication of this working.

So do i drop snap and fritz voicemail and go back to the panasonics?

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I think you will find any MWI's on your cordless will only display for the inbuilt voicemail.

If you plugged in a standard analogue phone with MW lamp it should work good as gold. Does the Fritz not modify the dial tone when there is a message waiting?

My old cordless which had an inbuilt answering machine would also indicate when there was a message on my italk voicemail but there was no number beside it like with the inbuilt.

I tried this out on my Uniden phones connected in the same way and what the Fritzbox does is when somebody leaves a message for you the Fritzbox quickly "phones" your own landline with the voicemail number (**600) as the caller ID. You then have an entry in your log of missed calls showing as coming from your voicemail. In practise, it means the only indication on your phone is found by you searching through your missed calls list which is no fun at all. I was disappointed myself that it couldn't just light the LED indicator.

From within the Fritzbox config menus you can set it to send you an email which is far more convenient. The voicemail recording itself is included as an attachment which will play back on any smartphone.

The internal answer machine on my Fritz is disabled so I use the Snap Plus hosted service for voicemail, which then send me an email with the caller ID in the subject and an audio attachment of the actual message. So same as Steve has, only done from Snap service rather than the Fritz itself. And once it has emailed the message it deletes it from the service - so I never need to manually clear the messages from the service.

I realize this isn't the visual indication you were after, but I actually find it better as it alerts me immediately of any message - and if it's for the girlfriend I just forward the email onto her.

Right so i've jumped into the Snap Plus portal which i found My Snap. I've set it to email voicemails which is a good start.

And i made sure MWI was enabled:

Confirmed it was enabled on the fritzbox FON1 port

And that the panasonic phone's manual supports voicemail (separate to its built in answering machine), telling me what icon to look for

But yet all i see is the Missed Call icon (telephone with arrow)

And get the callback appearing:

Except calling *694* does nothing except make a callback once you hang up from from 00*694*001*000*000 which is useless. It would be nice if it at least came through from 456 so you could call it back. But turns out this is because its actually the fritzbox doing it as detailed here: http://service.avm.de/support/en/skb/FRITZ-Box-7390-int/821:Occasional-calls-from-telephone-number-694-or-694

So it seems Snap sends MWI, my phone seems to support MWI (i assume this is what voicemail indicator is), but the fritzbox decides to take things into its own hands and convert it into a phonecall?

And the dial tone changes for a few seconds to a few beeps before going solid like normal. I'm guessing this is the voicemail indicator that was mentioned.

But the MWI still isn't coming through. So i've got:
-Missed Call
-Email
-Callback from fritzbox
-Change in dial tone

Perhaps i'm asking too much, but for the less technological of the household who dont use smartphones to monitor email, they want a simple visual display that there's definitely a message. Any ideas?

I really like the Snap Plus service but i might go back to the built in one if i can't get this working.

edit: And for those wondering, this is connected via a cable to FON1. The reason why it isn't connected via DECT becomes clear when you see it side by side with the same handset that is. No information. No caller ID. etc.
