Want to thank Snap for getting my install done in 3 days. They seem to have jumped through hoops to get it going as quickly as possible, and it was installed in my apartment only 3 days after I ordered it.

Getting ok speeds on ADSL 2+ (11 Mbit/s down and about 1 Mbit/s up). Will be getting the install upgraded to VDSL this week if everything goes to plan. (They did an ADSL install first, which I am guessing was the quickest way to get internet in here).

Again, thank you for great service Snap!

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

Nice one.

What's your attenuation on ADSL though? 11Mbps sounds quite low for the sync rate, possibly suggesting highish attenuation which might not be the best for VDSL. (EDIT: if your prequal says you can get it though, I'd still say go for it!)

If you're getting that sync rate you're not doing to get VDSL2 - unless of course your ADSL2+ is being impacted by internal wiring.

Should be good here, but its not on the first phone jack in the apartment, and there are probably lots of others that are making things "interesting here".

Line attenuation is 26 dB receive and 4 dB send.

Will try to move it to what I think is the first jack in the apartment and see if that helps.

Tempted to try different jacks in the house.

BUT, how long should I let the router in to be able to see what I can actually get before I try a new jack?

OR, should I ask Snap for a master filter with the install (if possible)?

You will have to get a splitter if you go to VDSL anyway.

So will Chorus install that when they do the VDSL install?

From what I can understand it was Snap that found a way to get me online quick (which I need for my work).

I have ordered VDSL with them, but to be able to deliver me an internet connection fast they first put in place ADSL and will be upgrading it to VDSL shortly. All at their cost.

So to me it seems like Snap was the ones that went well beyond what they really needed to do, in order to make me a happy customer.
