So it looks like we had a power cut last night. Not sure why.

GOt up this morning and my internet speed has increased by 10mbps... while I'm not going to complain about it... why has this happened?


Before the power cut I was getting 30 down, 10 up, now I get 40 down



I'm still on the same profile (8B), but my SNR has gone from 11 to 5 (still 0.01dB)


EDIT: Hmm, seems my international speeds have dropped tremendously though! PReviously could max out my line, right now can't get more than 300Kb/s

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

 



 

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

Its because the EMI in the area dropped significantly.

There's several threads over the last few months on this.

There's less interference (crosstalk) from other modems on lines in the same cable wrapper, so it can negotiate a higher sync rate. Over the next few days, the noise margin will drop as the noise floor increases, and it may negotiate a lower sync rate.

I just rebooted it - I had to. My international traffic was bloody slow. 

Strangely, national stuff worked fine (as you can see from the speedtest), but trying to download a file from overseas was crawling.

Rebooted modem, its at 33mbps, but now all my international works fine, which is far more important! :)
