I have looked thru a million pages here and cannot easily find anything on this, so forgive me if this has been asked already.
I am with Slingshot and I will be upgrading to VDSL on Friday (I hope, as this is the date I was advised). Out of curiosity I asked them what sort of speeds I could expect. Now I know that this is dependent on a number of different factors (distance from exchange, cable condition, attenuation, mother-in-law's birthday divided by the number of nieces and then multiplied by the number of grandkids under the age of 5, etc). I was told my downstream attenuation is 8.5dbM, and I am approx 850m from the cabinet, and I could expect speeds of around 16mb/s.
This is barely faster than the 12.9mb/s I get on Slingshot's ADSL!!!
According to the figures entered in this link (http://www.speedguide.net/dsl_speed_calc.php) I could expect up to 45mb/s.
Could I really expect to see speeds as *bad* as 16mb/s?
