Hello all

Got Orcon UFB Fibre and had a standard Orcon black modem which went faulty after a few months, so they just replaced it with a new Orcon White (Net Comm Wireless NF4V).

There are alot more settings in here, and the User Manual I have found for it only mentions some of them.

With the WIFI, it gives you the option to set up Guest WIFI SSID's. I have done that and no dramas, but what I dont get is how to make that SSID be on a seperate network to the main SSID.
In the old Black modem, you could easily set up 2 SSID's and allocate the network to it, say the first is 10.1.1.1 etc and the second is 192.168.1.1 etc.

I found a thing in the Advanced Setup options to get up an 'Interface Grouping', so I made one called Guest, and added the Guest WIFI Interface to it, wl0.1
I then went into LAN menu, and I could then allocate a network to 'Default' and a network to 'Guest'.

All was looking fine, anyone who connected to the Guest WIFI got the 192.x.x.x addressing, and anyone who connected to the main WIFI got the 10.x.x.x addressing.
However I then realised that anyone on the Guest WIFI had no internet access.

I went back into the grouping options and it seems you also can allocate the WAN interface to a group. But what I dont get is that you cannot allocate it to be in more than 1 group. So it seems only 1 group would ever be able to get the internet...

I am thinking I must be doing this wrong, and the Interface Grouping cant be what I want after all and there must surely be another way to do it...
I hope anyway.

Can someone assist please and point me in the right direction?

Alright, so I have spent the better part of the morning trying to get this working in a test environment before we release any more information. Have escalated to the engineer who has tested these for network compatibility, and he has been kind enough to peer check (if you wanna call it that) my config for it, it sounds like you're mostly on the right path, but I will have more information for you shortly.

Hello again

I made contact with netcomm wireless myself and asked the question.

They reckon it works already the way I did it, but I have confirmed it does not. The 2nd SSID does not receive internet. Connects to the wifi fine, and is on a seperate network, but no internet access.

I restored factory defaults and tried again, same result.

Gave them the details of the firmware and then what firmware they tested on, and they said R5B017
I am running the one Orcon shipped, which is R5B019

They said to reload the router with the Orcon R5B019 firmware, but I dont see how that is going to solve the issue. They gave me a link, but didnt give me the username and password to download from that link. gaaa
They then said they loaded the Orcon R5B019 firmware and it works for them too...

I dont get that, as I dont class myself a cabbage at all with this stuff, and I detailed the steps to them that I went through and they confirmed they were correct.

Has anyone else got this working, or do you end up with the same result as me?
Is it me being a pleb and doing something wrong, or is netcomm being stupid and thinking the network connection is the same thing as internet access?

Really need this working. Tempted to go back to the old faulty modem Orcon Black which was working right in this regard and reset it every day to keep it working.

Surely it is not that difficult for Orcon to simulate this and provide an answer?

Works fine on my NF4V - the only thing I can suggest is to lift your Global max clients above 16 on the Wireless-advanced settings page (mine is set to 24 as I sometimes have 15 devices (big household filled with teenagers and their toys), I haven't got time to test it right now but I am suspicious that if the setting is 16 that may be an overall limit and if they are all allocated to the main WiFi then that might influence Guest connectivity but that is complete conjecture on my part.

I just enabled WLAN Guest1, hit apply/save and it came up, switched network, confirmed BSSID was as per the Guest and no security required, able to browse to ebay.co.uk and the Orcon website etc and then switched back. Interestingly my ip address did NOT change when on the Guest WLAN....

Guest network does not give you a new IP range by itself. All it does is enable the second SSID for you to connect to, it still puts everyone on the same network.
The way to get the 2nd network up is go Advanced Setup, Interface Grouping, and make a new group. Put in the Avaialble LAN Interface which matches the Guest network you just made, wl0.1 for example. Save. Go into Advanced Setup again, and into LAN, and at the top there is a dropdown which probably says 'Default'. Change that to your new group you just made. You can then set the options and IP range for that group. So you now have Default, which is your main Network, and the new group which is your Guest.
Your Guest SSID will then associate with that new IP range you set up in LAN.
The problem I have is, there is no internet on the Guest network.

Page 40 of the NF4V manual states "only the default group has ip interface" - not 100% clear but I take that to mean only the default group will have internet access, they also refer to port mapping there which to me implies a port will only be mapped to a single group.

At this time Im not sure we can point to a Netcomm statement that multiple networks with internet access is a supported feature and Im pretty sure that wasnt on Orcons key functionality requirements when selecting the device, the combination of these two will make it a very low priority to resolve if it requires a firmware build.

Ill try and do some more testing over the weekend.

Did you ever get this working? I'd like to get this setup myself if possible, and am struggling with the same issue - 2nd network doesn't route to the internet.

Unfortunately, FireEngine has left Orcon; but hoping that someone else will be able to answer the question about if that Guide ever got completed - I had a really good poke around their website yesterday, and if it's there, I can't find it....

I tried a few obvious (and some more less obvious) things, and I can't make it go correctly myself - there's obviously something subtle I'm missing; so really hope that guide got written....

Unfortunately the only way I could get this working was to have the 2nd SSID but still having access to the whole network, ie on the same subnet.

I tried multiple times and ways to get what was explained to work, but it just didn't.

The 2nd SSID would always end up with no internet connection.

The way I ahve it now, is I have 2 SSID's, and the 2nd SSID is 'isolated' but no where near as good as having them on a different network.

The old Orcon modem I had did this fine. These newer NF4V ones have way more options, but it just doesn't work for this 2nd SSID on a separate network.

I wish Orcon would explain how to do it.
