Got my VDSL installed on Thursday, 15 May 2014. Very satisfied with the speed.
But starting to have problem on browsing some Chinese websites in early evening on Sunday 25 May 2014. They are very very slow to load, eventually stops loading with missing elements on the page. The problem is intermittent, sometimes these sites get loaded at a very slow speed. Even local site like trivago.co.nz loads slowly.
At the time the sites stops loading, tried the ping test, 25% to 100% of my ping test requests get lost.
Called slingshot yesterday evening, the lady suggested setting my DNS to 8.8.8.8, and 8.8.4.4. It solved the problem of not been able to ping some of these website, but still experiencing very slow performance.
Tested again this morning, before leaving for work, say 7.10am. Still very slow, but loading. I guess that wasn’t peak hour issue.
My questions are:
Is it caused by data shaping policy deployed by Slingshot, as I am on the unlimited plan?
Or I have been set to the wrong profile?
Or the problem is inherited from Flip?
I had Slingshot unlimited ADSL at my old place for more than a year. That was just good as. Changed to Flip since moved to current place, the Flip has caused most pain for me - very very often not been able to open some Chinese sites. I thought that was caused by their data shaping, decided to go for Slingshot unlimited VDSL. Now, I am getting this problem again.
