Hello all, not sure if i should necro old thread or start a new one.. but here goes

Changed from worldnet to orcon, extremely happy with the change. with worldnet my internet speed was consistently less than 0.3mbps during peak hours even when no one's at home.. and complaints are useless

at least i have working internet now :)

 

 

 

Have VDSL installed yesterday, 6/6/14 friday
connection came up almost immediately, cant wait to jump on speedtest to test the result but my downspeed is so much slower than up....




upload increased dramatically but download is just 40% of sync... should i ring up orcon helpdesk?

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- Your ISP and plan

 


 

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

 


 

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

 


 

- Your general location (or street)

 


 

- If you are rural or urban

 


 

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

 


 

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

 


 

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

 



 

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

 



 

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I assume you're testing over Ethernet and not WiFi? If the test is over WiFi there is no issue.

it's about the same on both wifi and ethernet. i tested over wifi with a computer upstairs at first, thought there was something wrong then tested with a mate's laptop and the result is the one posted above..

mutalisk: it's about the same on both wifi and ethernet. i tested over wifi with a computer upstairs at first, thought there was something wrong then tested with a mate's laptop and the result is the one posted above..


Could you please re-run the test connected by cable but with WiFi on the test machine turned OFF, some laptops still give priority to WiFi even if connected by cable.

I bought a new cable to test with as the previous cable i used with the laptop was REALLY old...

and the speed is now 32Mbps out of a sync of 44Mbps, which i consider good enough :) Bought a powerline adapter for my upstairs computer and it's working brilliantly!   One thing though is that peak hours speed is so much lower than sync rate.. between 5pm to 9-10pm the download speed hovers around the 20Mbps mark... still better than the nightmare which is worldnet though!

Although peak traffic time we aren't constrained on international bandwidth in any direction even then - where are you downloading from to get that figure? There shouldn't be any issue on national traffic unless there is a local issue, perhaps in the Chorus network...

and i'm currently downloading wildstar client, this is the speed i get 



while my friend on vodafone is consistently >2MB/sec :(

the speed improves greatly past 10pm, i'll get >35mbps, it's just that during peak hours it's consistently less than 20mbps

connection is cabled, not on wifi

sounds like congestion, looks like fireengine is looking into it so im sure it will come right soon.

just keep your modem solidly synced there, close on 50mbit on 8b at your distance is pretty solid!

FireEngine isn't looking into it because the OP hasn't PM'd FireEngine his account number.....

OP - we don't have any large issues, we don't have any international bandwidth issues so without your account number I can't start looking at what might be causing this....
