Orcon is getting boring. All works fine for me but there doesn't seem to be any activity to get us excited.

Other ISP's are getting on with Global mode, faster speeds, bigger caps etc but we are yawn and ho hum.

Anything to look forward to, guys?

(Just a bit of a fun question. I appreciate the work done behind the scenes to improve speed and reliability and I greatly appreciate santa's little helpers, here).

PS If it is commercially sensitive, just whisper.

Well Global Mode is now part of the same group so that might set an expectation - its certainly in the news!

Faster speeds? If you want to pay for dedicated fibre we can go as fast as technology allows....for UFB we offer the fastest the LFCs offer and will likely continue to offer the fastest they do....ADSL and VDSL is as fast with Orcon as it will be with any other ISP (AND Unlimited & Unshaped if you choose)

Bigger Caps - bigger than Unshaped & Unlimited - how so?

But I have no secret insight however I am sure being part of the CallPlus group will bring some interesting product opportunities....

global mode etc is just noise. you can use unblock-us or unotelly with any ISP, and they work far better than Slingshot's global mode.

Orcon already do unlimited data, and have 100Mbps fibre.  I guess they could hurry up with the 200Mbps plan Chorus now have, and the 1Gbps plan UFF(?) offer, but no other ISP offers those either just yet, so it's hardly a big negative that orcon don't have them yet either.

lol, see my previous post.  no you don't. Chorus has a 200Mbps residential plan now. another LFC (UFF?) offers a 1Gbps plan.
You don't offer either of those yet (not that I'm blaming you, nobody else does either, but you shouldn't claim to have the fastest speeds available when you don't)

Nope - they have to be turned into retail ISP products, Chorus can't sell you a retail 200Mbps service, nor can any ISP I am aware of yet....we have the fastest retail products available - we were the first to have any retail product on UFB....

Chorus have a 200Mbps plan right now that any RSP can buy.  You don't yet offer that plan.

therefore, you don't have "the fastest the LFCs offer"

Ah I see what you mean, technically true :-) Out by a month.....moot point though, its not a reason to be bored with Orcon....anyway, we can sell you a 1Gbps circuit right now if you are willing to pay....

Its not a plan, its a dedicated fibre circuit, not really intended as a residential product.

oh, okay. how much would a 100/50 cost on the vector fibre network? as in the setup?

Vector are not one of the prescribed UFB LFCs and therefore they don't have any 'cheap' residential products that I'm aware of. A few years ago 100/100 would have cost several thousand, not sure today though. You'd also pay for the build costs to get the cable from the street into your premises/house as it wouldn't be crown funded as it is now for UFB.

It's not uncommon for those build costs to be up to 50K alone if you're not almost on the street where their fiber runs past.

It's really comparing apples with oranges as there are HUGE differences in CIR and SLAs etc, the only thing comparable is there's fibre involved.

Sorry, but I didn't make myself clear re my faster/caps comment. Entirely my fault. I am not into the 1Gbs stratosphere!!

I just wondered about boosting the basic speeds and 30GB cap. I know plans can be changed up but a little sugar on the basic plan 'pill' would be nice!

Signed,

Sorry, I'm confused. If you want a higher cap or higher speed, can't you just move to a higher plan?

You can go to 100/50 on the speeds and/or Unlimited Data.
