Hello,

I believe that Snap monitors and supports on these forums?

For 3 weeks now, all Snap users (or at least the subset of 3 that we have that play DOTA 2) have not been able to connect and play on the DOTA 2 US West servers. No problem on other ISPs.

Server is eat.valve.net

I've included a WinMTR trace.

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

Your trace looks okay, what you've highlighted shouldn't be an issue, two hops are not responding to the ICMP packets, but later hops are. Whatever issue your having is unlikely to be related.

I just made a custom game on USW servers and couldn't connect and play without issues. (Snap! VDSL home connection)

Happens to me too lately, trying to play with a mate in California, and Dota 2's US West servers rarely let me get past the loading screen.

Based on that thread above and the traceroute output, it's fairly conclusive that the source of the problem is in Level3's network in the US. I doubt that there's much that any NZ ISP can do to fix the problem.

It sounds like this could be related to the BGP table size issue that's been causing a few network headaches lately. There's no quick fix for this issue, and it's likely to require reconfiguration or replacement of a good chunk of the internet's routing hardware. It could be weeks (or worse, months) before the world's internet is working normally again.

Just because a hop doesn't reply to ICMP traffic it doesn't mean that is the problem.
