Hi, I signed up to My Republic the day it was launched.

I already have fiber installed at my house - currently with a regional ISP.

I signed up to My Republic, I received an invoice of $0.00 and I just saw that my credit card was charged $50 the day that I sign up to My Republic.

Any reason for this?

This is a bond for the router.

When you sign up for the 3 month FREE trial you’ll:

Receive a sleek and powerful router worth $170
Pay a refundable $50 bond for the router upon sign up
The $50 bond will be credited to your account when you continue with MyRepublic or you’ll be refunded if you decide to end the trial (and return the router)

I'd be surprised if they didn't. There were no ISPs out there using untagged UNI ports as the default.

There goes anybody using their service wanting to access their CIR for guaranteed performance for voice/video. So much for their claims that they're better than everybody else out there in every single respect..

I guess it makes it a lot easier to provision backhaul around the country when you don't need to guarantee any bandwidth at all unlike other providers.

Plenty offer untagged as an option, but my understanding was there was nobody by default untagging all ports because of the obvious problem that you no longer have a CIR component to your connection. This isn't an issue if you don't care about voice/video or any guaranteed bandwidth for your connection, but certainly isn't something you'd want to do in a business environment or where you're running voice over your connection since UFB speeds are 100% EIR with absolutely no guaranteed bandwidth.

If you look a bit around GZ or even just at his blog posts on here you will find @sbiddle raises these types of technology questions about most ISPs. Have a search for the posts around Bigpipe not doing VDSL spliters for example.

Just because someone knows what they're talking about when it comes to ISPs/networks and makes a comment on a thread it doesn't instantly require accusation that they're from another ISP posting just to bad mouth you.

There are lots of ISP's present here, and while they compete out there in the marketplace, for the most part the industry players tend to get along here.

From what I see - since coming on here you have attacked all other ISP's, all the while boasting about how great you are.

You should expect to get involved in technical discourse by coming on a site like this.

The member you have attacked is a moderator and established contributor to this site.

This industry is a team effort and regardless of what you may want, you or anyone else does not own the industry. We all connect and need to get along.

I think Marc should get one of his technical guys to join this forum.
Most people here can see through Sales talk and want more information.

Attacking or accusing a long-time member and mod of the site, who I'd venture know a lot more about ISP scale networks than a sales manager is not a great way to get members of this forum to spend money with you.

Personally, I like the idea of MyRepublic, but were UFB available in my street today (not until next year unfortunately), based on what I have read from Mr Whinery, I will be staying away. Based on the contributions of the BigPipe team on these boards, that is where my money would go. It may all change in a few months time.

As above. One of the things in the FUG is WE DO NOT ASK FOR AFFILIATIONS. By default you should attack the message not the messenger. If you have problems with someone then this is taken in private - send myself or a moderator a PM.

Sbiddle is a moderator here, and blogs here. I think you will find out that a) he knows what he's talking about and b) he's impartial, pushing ALL ISPs to the max.
