Hey,

I just changed from one of the old UFB plans to one of the new UFB plans due to the $10 unlimited upgrade promo. I noticed that I am able to upgrade my 7390 Fritz (that I got for $50 extra when i signed up to my old plan) to the 7490 for $199.

Also, my ONT and Fritz are installed in the garage, so I use a Netgear AC1750 router that is positioned in the centre of my house thus essentially using the 7390 as a modem for the four wired gigabit ports.

I am just curious as to whether the slight increase in CPU speed (increase of 100mHz i think) would be any real benefit to me in the long term with UFB speeds, naturally, increasing in the future.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

Feels like a waste of money for something in the future. It seems that router is for the people who want those 200mbps speeds over a wireless connection.

7390 can preform 200/200 fine, main benefit would the AC wireless, which you have taken care of already.

cjmchch would be able to give a good indication of how much headway it still has.

I find my 7390 occasionally 'freezes' the internet access for a minute or two , maybe twice a day on average , such that internet pages will timeout or be very slow. It usually seems to come right so I've not really complained. On the odd occasion where the freeze has been longer, rebooting the router seems to fix the issue. This freezing is the same on different devices via both wired and wireless connections. Only internet access is affected, the internal fritz webpage and lan-lan communication seems OK.

I'm on UFB 100/50 plan via UFF.

I was wondering whether the 7490 with its extra ram and cpu power would stop this annoying problem.

I've never experienced this issue, so it might be unique to your unit and/or connection. The upgrade may or may not fix the issue depending on where the issue lies, eg, fritz, ONT, connection etc.

PPP stays up. The internet connection just slows or stops for between 10 secs to a couple of minutes, usually it is around 30secs. I was wondering if it was related to overheating maybe.

My vpn connection seems to keep connected so it is not a total disconnect of the internet.

I've never seen any overheating issues. I don't use mine for wifi, but it's the gateway and serves up all the ips. It averages CPU 36%.

Where is the temperature graph? I looked under energy monitor but there is no temperature information. I googled and there is definitely a temperature graph on some 7390's but not on mine -- maybe the current firmware removed it?

However, I do have the cpu and ram, I'll check that next time this occurs.

as for where exactly, my fritz is sitting at my flat currently as it has not been moved yet, so i dont have access to it.
