Hi All,

I'm currently on UFB 100/50 in Auckland.

I've noticed international download speeds haven't really been as fast as it has before, noticeably slower to US base hosts. I feel like I've been here before.

I've got VDSL at work and that seem to out perform the download speed, almost at twice the speed.

UFB

VDSL

National is fine.

Anyone else, particularly in Auckland, have the same issue?

- Nick

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

I wonder if it relates to how much international capacity an ISP pays for?  I have UFB 30/10 which consistently gives 29/9.5 performance on the Spark Auckland and Christchurch SpeedTest servers.  These are the numbers I get on a WiFi ac network at home.  Just now I got these results after using SpeedTest.net:

I've been getting similar speeds over here in CHCH. On 200Mbps plan. There is planned maintenance on the 10th Dec, but looking at your results, I don't think it would make a difference for me.

I have exactly the same issue as the OP since last week. i finally called snap and tried to troubleshoot with them and got a generic response

"Since the issue lies out of our network there is nothing we can do about it"

And after i got little bit irate they started looking into it further. I have been with them about 20 months or so and never had speed related issue before like this.

i m still waiting on them to call me back and tell me what they have done to resolve this issue.

BTW i have exactly the same speedtest results as you from US west coast servers.

(also, just created an account after 8 years just to post this.)

From my end I have tested with few different servers in the US, as our speed goes up, alot of crappy build speedtest servers will show up on our radar.

the best speed I have getting from US server even back when I was on VDSL it's from LA, Dreamhost.

Now I am on 200/200 UFB and below it's my speedtest:-

People with this issue, go to your Fritzbox UI, go to System and look at the Internet Connection tab. Somewhere in the log on that tab it will tell you what PoP you are connected to. See if it's SNAP-08. From my experience this PoP is faulty and gives terrible international performance. Every time my connection ends up on SNAP-08 I see the same as the OP. Once the PoP changes, speeds are great. If you're on SNAP-08 ask to be moved.

"Internet connection established successfully. IP address: 202.124.XXX.XXX, DNS server: 202.37.101.1 and 202.37.101.2, Gateway: 111.69.1.254, Broadband PoP: SNAP-08"
How does one get moved off this? A simple email telling them to be moved off the SNAP-08 PoP?

I'm currently running an Asus RT-N66U with Tomato firmware, and there is no way to tell which exchange I'm connecting to.

I'm hesitant to contact Snap, as I'm I'm afraid I would get the same response as Dummyemail7. I remember when I first started a long thread on UFB performance issues, it took about 2 months for Snap to acknowledge the issue, then a further 1 month to fix the issue. I lost count on the number of times I needed to call and bug Snap.

I guess I will just have to call Snap... *sigh*

DNS server: 202.37.101.1 and 202.37.101.2, Gateway: 111.69.67.37, Broadband PoP: SNAP-37

i guess just for the sake of it i will also try to get moved to a new POP

Edit: Just talked to SNAP and was told that POP gets assigned automatically and they dont have any control over it. And was advised to restart my router until i get a NEW POP.........

Highly variable performance between servers - Snap 30/10 here.

Can I ask what server in Los Angeles your test was to as my speeds have deteriorated in the last few days (now only getting 20/20 to Snap's server in Christchurch even though on 200/200) and I also have the dreaded "Snap PoP 08" issue - see below tests to Snap Christchurch and to Los Angeles.
