Hi Team

So I have become a little stuck.... I have brought a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter-3 and am trying to use it rather than the NF4V (Orcon Genius White) but cant seem to get it to work.

Here is what I believe to be true but am happy to be corrected:

Orcon UFB is DHCP connection type
Uses VLAN 10
Has to be connected to port 1 on the TN
I wont be able to get VOIP (not bothered)

But no matter what I try the EdgeRouter doesn't seem to connect, any ideas??

Paging @michaelmurfy, GZ ER Guru (TM, patent pending).

In the meantime, you might like to have a look at this thread (although this is for PPPOE cf DHCP).

Personally, I still haven't been game enough to take the plunge on an EdgeRouter, so good luck.

So I still haven't got this working, so gave Orcon help a call, thety were very reluctant to help me set up a 3rd party Modem but in the end was told only the following:

Orcon uses VLAN taging 10
and that some customers are on DSL and thos customers are PPPoe not DCHP (Is DSL like Vodafone cable?)

Im rather certain im a standard fibre customer as I had to be home 4 times for Chorus to run the fibre down my driveway and into my house.... but am going to give PPPoe a try.

Starting to feel like its impossible to use your own Modem with Orcon Fibre.

I am at work (so not in front of my ERL at the moment) however.

1) Update to Firmware 1.90 from Here.
2) Factory reset the router, then use the wizard to set up the connection using VLAN 10 + DHCP on the WAN interface (finally! It is included in the wizard!)

It should be as simple as this however I am yet to test the wizards - if not, I'll come back later on tonight when I am home with a quick "how do I do this thing".

and using the "basic Setup" wizard (not the WAN+2LAN etc) and using the below settings

Yep that should be fine for a connection. I am currently using DHCP over VLAN10 on my router so will check my settings when I get home. From what I recall it is as simple as this and ensuring you're plugging in your ONT to port 1 (eth0) of the router. I am not at all aware of how Orcon do things as I am using a BigPipe connection for my interwebz.

tried cloning the MAC ID form the Genius Modem to the Ubiquiti and still no luck....

Its clear at this point either im doing something wrong or its just impossible to use your own Modem on Orcon

It is indeed possible - people have done it (even with the ERL).

Could you please go onto the console of the router after running the setup and type configure followed by this? There should be "vif 10" and the connection should be going through that.

I'd like to see if there is a bug with the wizard. I think I know what is causing it and it should be an easy fix. I would run it on my own router except I have quite a massive config I don't want to wipe :)

You don't need to clone the MAC ID. We don't restrict modem types.

There should be no reason why your Edge Router won't work (other than being misconfigured)

I assume if you plug the NF4V into Port1 on the ONT, it works?

Thanks this is what I wanted to know!! Means I need to go back and do a "did I do something stupid" check or look into if the wizards are working as needed or if I need to do a manual setup.

So here is what i did and then the reply I received:

Reset Modem > Run Set-up Wizard > CLI > Logged in with user/pass > Typed "configure" > Typed "show interfaces ethernet eth0" > Received the following reply:

That does look correct (vif 10 = VLAN 10) and it is trying to get a DHCP reply from that.

Can you confirm you're plugging this into eth0 of the ERL into your ONT?

Yep just checked that, even tried a new cat5.e cable (Worth a try)

Any chance my new modem is a faulty unit?

ignore if its a dumb question but.... is it a DCHP lease period type issue?

Should I leave it setup for a few hours in order to be issued a new IP / turn off the UNT for half and hour and start it back up?

At present I have been waiting say 15 - 20 mins then trying again.
