ok so even more issues since our UFB install...

1)using the supplied router all our wifi devices have TERRIBLE download speeds...facebook etc takes for ever to load pages despite our devices saying they have good wifi signal

ive tried turning off 5ghz so its just a 2.4 wifi AP. 2.4 has worked flawlessly at our place for years without any signal issues

i have a second router set up in the bedroom acting as a second wifiAP and our devices work perfectly when connected to that one...(crappy old lynksys router)

is the supplied router really that $#!T at wifi even on 2.4ghz??  should i try changing the "band" in the advanced router options? (if so whats a good band to try?)

should i just put the other old crappy lynksys router back in and tell it to look fr the new fiber DNS?

second issue..

over the last few days weve had to reset the router every day to get internet connection even on the wired lan.... it seems to be changing our I.p address daily and everything stops working when it does. i literally havent had to reset a router in over a year...now its a regular occurance.... wifey IS NOT HAPPY as she works from home and i dont so cant sort things when it craps out.

Turn off anything that isn't the ISP supplied equipment and see how it goes.  If you've still got issues, log a fault with your ISP.  All the symptoms sound like a fault but could just as easily be conflicts with your other equipment.

Hiya,

Appreciate the faulting process can be a bit of a rigmarole but it does sound like our team need to troubleshoot to see why that's happening. I can arrange for someone to give you a bell if you send your details through!

Cheers

sound advice there, if it's a WiFi issue.

although you didn't explicitly say it's ok with Ethernet (wired), in which case it might not just be WiFi.

Check its not on 40MHz for the 2.4GHz channel, That will usually show excelent signal but terrible thruput when around other wifi networks since both halves of the channel have to be free before transmission can happen, and that is seldom the case in urban areas.

ok so doing some more digging it appears that wifeys phone was screwing up the DHCP and was locked on ...168.1.2 so it was seriously causing havoc... sorted that and well see how that goes as far as the dhcp issues go....

hopefully this also sorts the wifi throughput issues.

next one it seems like SS are changing our registered IP adress up to three times a day which is wreaking havoc with our wired PC running the getflix DNS... looks like well have to fork out for a fixed IP.(never had any issues like this on adsl Grrrr)

How long ago was the fibre connected?

Reguarding the changing IP number maybe provisioning hasn’t completed yet?

I don’t know about Slingshot, but with another ISP, IP number would change every 4 hours until provisioning completed.

Edit: Thread start 18 Oct, should’ve been plenty of time for provisioning.
Probably best to ask them way IP changing so often.
