I just posted on my geekzone blog and my changes to the pages where not comming through.

Slingshot has started using a new proxy but I thought that was for international traffic.

But I don't think it's Slingshot as if I go throught an internation web proxy I still get the 1st version of the page and not the updates.

love the site.

Hmmm. Everyone seems to be having problems with that proxy.
I do like how it can cahe youtube videos though.

When you go to view the page, add a ? onto the end of the url and that should tell the cache its dynamically generated and unable to be cached.

I still can't get to some youtube video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxjpmc8ZIxM with a ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxjpmc8ZIxM?    gives me a "The URL contained a malformed video ID."

In that case its because the URL already has a ? parameter in it.. try using an ampersand (&) and appending a random string like so..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxjpmc8ZIxM&foo

I tried the and &foo but still not loading.  I think it's the ?  that's breaking the slingshot proxy.  I tried IE, Firefox, two different computers, flushed caches and buffers and still I can see youtube.

The only way I can see videos, that I have found via embdedded content is to use a 3rd party website to download the movie,  a bit like a proxy.

I'll call the helpdesk again and complain, again.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I've just been having issues with a forum I frequent. Even after a hard refresh (and the site passing the no-cache headers), I'm being served a stale page.

I'm going to ring up and demand to be excluded from the proxy. Too many stale pages, dns errors (despite using OpenDNS which I KNOW carries the records), instances of cross-account sign-ins, and general inconvenience.

I called the helpdesk,  which is the best why to deal with a problem.

It took about 25mins to discover that my problem with youtube was part of the new proxie cache thing.

I have not looked if my geekzone blog posting issue is working,  I've not discovered anything that excites me enough to post.

what url do you type in to see other peoples account? are you surfing inside the new cache?

Hi,

Regarding that article, a fault occurred due to a configuration error during an upgrade of our caches.  The upgrade was designed in conjunction with our vendor to further enhance the internet speeds for all our customers.  The fault that occurred was an isolated incident and it was fixed almost immediately.  We take the confidentiality of customer data extremely seriously and have taken necessary steps to ensure this does not happen again.  I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Mark, despite reports in the papers that this problem only lasted 15 minutes, it was at least 3 hours after I first called the Slingshot sales line and asked to be urgently put through to tech support before we were finally able to access our own pages again.?

I have called numerously regarding caching issues which continue to be a problem.? What happened yesterday was another disgraceful display of bad data management.

When I informed Google that their users inboxes were being made freely viewable, they were livid - as they should be.? Any service provider that provides assurances that their information is private and then finds an ISP "accidently" enabling others to view said information is going to be pretty angry.

I understand that caching saves you money but your rules are far too strict and make usabilty a real difficulty for people like us who work on international servers doing web development.? Regularly we find old cached versions of sites appearing and have to wait long periods of time before new images/pagesto finally be updated.? Even using CTRL-F5 does nothing.? And don't get me started on how long it takes for domain names to propogate on your DNS!

There have been cases where our employees have argued with your call centre staff about the existence of websites purely because they couldn't see them.? It's inconvenient to have to use proxies whenever we can't access what we need to just to bypass our ISP's out of date cache.

Then there are instances of websites that are updating every few minutes.? Having these cached during time critical events becomes incredibly trying on the patience.

Randomly getting TCP errors and having to refresh multiple times before pages load is also a pain.? This isn't just being experienced by me but by others on the Slingshot network.

The caching issues need to be resolved.? Sure, try and save yourselves some bandwidth costs but please stop being stupid about it to the point where we have more experiences like what happened yesterday.

I asked to be excluded from the proxy and was told something along the lines of 'you'll just have to live with it'.

I'm sorry,  If you told your angry clients who used gmail to manage business, then you should have informed them to use the https setting for protection.

I know it's bad and should never have happened (or happen ever again *yeh right)
