Driving through Papanui, i noticed a grey cell mast perched right on the site of the PAP telephone exchange (On Papanui Road, near the Blighs corner).
Has anyone else noticed this? It does't look active yet as a side panel has thick black cables hanging out.

Either NZComms or Telecom doing something with the panels on top of westfield chartwell. I have a feeling it was telecom though, since they were placed below the existing panels.

If it's on a Telecom site it'd be fairly safe to assume that it's a Telecom site, not a NZ Comms one.

Over the weekend, I saw Chorus were working on a new cell tower at Church Corner (in fact on the spot where Mitre 10 is) in Christchurch.

The NZ Comms tower Antennae are a bit stockier then the telecom antennas. To me the aerals are a bit shorter then the telecom ones. and usually they have a sticker on it saying its NZ Comms.

After doing some research, lately i have noticed since the new CEO has taken hold NZ Comms has gone very quiet. So much so that i have even noticed they are switching of the broadcast on their cell towers. Perhaps they want to have a sneaky entrance...

nz comms have short antennas, about 1.3 m long max (from what i've seen so far). and are normally shrouded in public areas and use a microwave link (like vodafone, that's what the two tubes sticking out are for to mount in the photo above)

A photo of another NZ Communications cellsite which is located at Trentham by the racecourse.

Appears to be a 2G site with three GSM 900 MHZ panels and microwave dish.

When you say microwave link, I thought most of them used fibre backbone....
