Hi,

I have just moved house and I phoned 2 degrees to transfer my account today from the previous house. I got told I just connect my existing fritz box to the chorus ONT but instead I found a white box that has 1 RJ45 connector and a separate connector similar to a phone line jack. Doesn't resembles to the chorus ONT I am used to. I have received a text from chorus. From the website the box does not resemble the ONT.

Any ideas?

Paul

The ONT has been stolen - which is useless to anyone so why would you ?

that is the mounting bracket, the ONT sits on top of it that yellow cable is to take POTSs off the ONT and feed to to the jackpoints in the house

I have tried connecting the fritz box Lan port to the white box RJ45. Nothing. No internet.

That's the Type 300 ONT mounting plate/ITP. The ONT has been taken by the previous occupant. Please contact 2Degrees to advise the ONT has been taken - they will ask Chorus to dispatch a technician to replace it.

Very frustrating, but unfortunately it happens all too often. If you have any way of contacting the previous occupant to ask them to bring it back (for example through your real estate agent, property manager or landlord) that may be another option.

I guess I have to contact 2degrees or chorus to install a new ONT.

In some cases, the previous tenant bundles up the ONT with their router and returns both of them to their RSP, oblivious that the ONT is supposed to remain affixed to the wall at the property when they leave. We've had a number of ONTs that have eventually made their way back to Chorus in this manner.

I agree with you - it's certainly possible to determine who's likely to have taken it. At the very least a courtesy call from Chorus politely asking them to return it would be a good idea I think, but if they deny it there's not a lot we can do.

on the upside here, the chorus tech is going to have a very easy fix here.

they have unplugged the fibre flylead, so the tech will literally just need to provision a new ont and plug it in - assuming the fibre isn't damaged elsewhere..

I suspect i'll never get the numbers, but i would be really keen to know what the stolen ONT rates per generation are.

3rd gen ont comes with a powercable with a nasty big label saying "DO NOT REMOVE FROM PROPERTY"... but, then it looks like a "Modem" too...

Highly Suspect the New Nokia's will be significantly higher

that's my view, and it was my feedback to chorus before this ONT was actually put into production

they are now mounted 90° from the initial photos, they used to look real good for kids to rip off walls with the antenna sticking out to the left.

Thanks guy. I called 2degrees and they notified chorus. Hopefully it will be all resolved. One good news 2degrees gave me 50GB while I wait. Awesome service.

A wee bit off topic...

Surely you have some recourse here on chattles perhaps? Not bought a house for a while so cant remember what gets listed. Does telecoms service? Because if it is and its now gone I'd be back in touch with my lawyer.

I also dont see why people would take the ONTs either.

I'm surprised they don't have a big 'DO NOT REMOVE FROM PROPERTY' and require a tool to release the latches...

A big label on the ONT might spoil its appearance on the wall. Perhaps a bigger label on the mounting bracket visible once you unclip the ONT saying "Put it back!"

IANAL but if it belongs to the supplier it wouldn't go on the chattels list but might be a service that should be in working order

"7.3 vendor warrants and undertakes that at settlement:
(1) The chattels included in the sale listed in Schedule 2 and all plant, equipment, systems or devices which provide any services
or amenities to the property, including, without limitation, security, heating, cooling, or air-conditioning, are delivered to the
purchaser in reasonable working order, but in all other respects in their state of repair as at the date of this agreement (fair
wear and tear excepted) but failure to do so shall only create a right of compensation."

You mean like this?

To be fair, that is a Type 200 ONT. The Type 300 ONTs do have a "do not remove" sticker on them too, but from memory it's on the side not the front, so is more easily missed.

I agree with you on the tool required to remove though - what a utopian world we'd live in then lol
