Time to renew my 2 degrees 12 month contract, I see what new users are getting (sign-on credit & Amazon Prime) and hoped to get one or the other with the new tariff but nada 🤔

And I know I will pay slightly less with 2D than shifting to another ISP but......it.....still.....bugs.....me that I am treated as a 2nd class citizen (feels like)

I also know this is the norm but am I wrong to want my cake and to eat it too 🙂

About a month ago I phoned up to get a fault fixed. At the end of the call the CSR offered the sign up package to me. Verified I'd keep some existing add ons (static IP for free).

Definitely possible.

Hmmmm, interesting

I was planning on ringing tomorrow too, in case the Sunday CSR has limited scope

Thanks for the swift response

Just be up front - tell them your curious what rention they can offer you, if any, as otherwise other providers have a sharper offer available to you. Nothing wrong with jumping to whoever will give you the best bang for your buck, as long as they offer good internet too.

I do this every year. Just be kind, say you're looking at other options and ask them what they can do for you. If the CSR can't give you anything then ask to be put through to retention.

They can't give you Prime (that is once-off) but I normally at-least get a cheaper rate. It isn't the "new user" rate but still better than other providers.

I got a discount when I called and asked nicely, although most likely matching to the current updated monthly fee.

Either way I was happy to have a spare 20 bucks every month for the next 12 months.

I let me fixed term contract run out. A while later (months) I called up and recommitted and got the new customer deal, including Amazon Prime. This was a few months ago I guess. I also got a Fritz 7590 as the old 7390 was failing.

Thanks for the tips, never thought of asking for a retention team :) and can always try timmmay's suggestion if the missus wants Prime

Good luck calling them. I have had 3 attempts to call them and hung up after no replies. May try again this week.

So variable aye. Previously I rang up and because I had never had a "new customer credit" I was able to get that, although wasn't able to get the Prime sub as I had previously taken advantage of that. So there must be some basic rules they go by. I can't be bothered switching around if the difference is so small (which is my current situation atm). So now I am rolling off contract and just keeping half an eye out for a decent deal if it comes up.

Slow wait time this morning, and the CSR wasn’t keen on putting me through to retention but did offer me either 900/400 for $90 a month or 100/20 for $75.

Hard to know if it’s worth the extra $15 or if it’s just bragging rights.

One thing is we’re now probably more likely to be making more use of uploading (eg, my sister has access to our NAS content via Plex; newly installed IP cameras), but is that kind of usage going to make much of a difference?

I dropped from 900/400 to 100/20 almost 6 months ago and didnt see any difference. I live alone and stream all my television and do some gaming.

Whereas we’re a family of four in which there’ll be times where all four of us are using 4K VOD or (in the kids’ cases) gaming.

Is there any way I can artificially constrain our speeds (say at the router level) so we can get some sense of what it would be like returning to 100/20?

With Fritzbox you can enter your line speed, I think it might limit based on that.
