Just got a bill from Slingshot.

TXT donations were made to 2427 to send a $3 TXT donation to the Red Cross via Newstalk ZB competition/promotion.

But I have been billed $3.45 for each TXT.

Call centre MANAGER confirms that this is the correct charge and includes a "surcharge" or GST.

Refuses to accept that donations are zero-rated for GST. Says that the $3.45 is what the company running 2427 is billing them.

Something's not right here. My intuition tells me Vodafone is billing Slingshot $3.00 for the premium SMS and then Slingshot is adding on the extra 15%.

Not good enough Slingshot. Your billing is CRAP and you have lost me pretty much for life. I've spent far too much of my life chasing up your billing errors and irregularities. Every one I know that has had a Slingshot mobile has universally been mis-billed and is sick to death of it.

Absolutely hopeless.

Wow! That's pretty low, even for Slingshot. Agree with johnr. Surely they made a mistake there. RIGHT?

Shame on Slingshot! This is donations to my town which as many of you are aware has been totally ruined. Not something to make money off.

I am truly disgusted.

Even if it was intentional. Now its been put out there they will make it seem like a error.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

A $3 TXT donation can't be charged $3.45 I don't care what anyone else says. Donations are zero GST. The person you spoke to in SS is not using common sense and should have escalted it. No questions asked

johnr: This has to be an error

I'm glad you replied John. I considered putting this in the VF forums because Slingshot in my experience are sometimes impossibly frustrating.

What's going on here and what resolution can I seek because despite some extreme controlled aggression with a CSR Supervisor/Manager he did not take any ownership of this issue and kept referring me to Red Cross....

How do I find out who is running 2427? I am in discussions with Newstalk ZB (who promoted the 2427 number) and they are yet to get back to me.

Slingshot billing is just insane because I reckon half the time they don't even understand the Vodafone billing charges - they simply pass them on for us to pay without thinking about it at all......

I'm sure Campbell Live would love to hear about this, or possibly Fair Go.

Don't link a page unless you actually read the link itself? Or did you intend on telling us that I was right in a strange double negative fashion?

John he was a brick wall that was well disguised as a call centre manager. It was pointless because after a few minutes the mortar was obviously not going to crumble.

Can you please advise if you have heard of any other MVNOs adding GST to TXT donations?

Premium TXTs to "hot" lines I can understand, but donations are zero-rated as you already know.

Ok.. it wasn't 100% what you where talking about.. but it says donations are not charged GST on their income.. so really you shouldn't be charged it

A surcharge or GST? They don't know which?

If Fair Go was to take on Slingshot problems they would probably not have any other time for other companies in their season. Like me I think they are just sick of it.
