Big news for gamers: Orcon has installed new gaming servers, a Steam server, and has zero-rated traffic to both. Steam is an application that lets people buy, download and play games.

Installing a Steam server at Orcon’s datacenter lets people download games quickly, and is zero-rated, overcoming a major barrier for many people downloading games.

Orcon’s Thomas Salmen says: “Gaming has always been core for Orcon, many of our staff are big gamers and we have a lot of customers who game.

“The new servers mean better gaming performance, and Steam is an awesome service that we are really happy to be able to zero-rate.

Orcon has also launched a new community site games.orcon.net.nz so people can see what servers are running, track their stats and chat with other gamers.

Important note: data from the Orcon Steam Content Server will be unmetered for Orcon customers. However, if you download from another Steam server, this usage will be charged. To check that you are downloading from the Orcon server click ‘play’ on the game you are downloading and check that the Orcon Games banner is displayed.
